The Met Gala has stirred up a variety of emotions this week, with toxic diet culture being the main topic of discussion.
Lili Reinhart recently gave an emotional rant about “starving” celebrities following Kim Kardashian’s comments about the extreme lengths she went to fit into her Met Gala dress.
Since her Instagram outburst, the actress has explained why she felt the need to speak out after people slammed her for attention-seeking.

Now, the world-renowned Met Gala took place on Monday night and hundreds of celebrities arrived dressed to impress.

So let’s take a look at some of the best (and worst) looks that graced the red carpet.
Best: Blake Lively…

She served us two looks in one, inspired by the Statue of Liberty — iconic.
Best: Sabrina Carpenter…

Sure, it’s a little obvious, but you can’t go wrong with a sparkly gold mega train.
Worst: Phoebe Bridgers…

We love the slicked-back hair, but boy is this dress a letdown.
Worst: Kodi Smit-McPhee…

We appreciate the efforts to try something different, but it’s a no from us.
Best: Huma Abedin…

It’s a little bit simple, but the draped yellow fabric really works for us.
Worst: Paloma Essler…

Something about this lingerie-esque look just screams a little “cheap.”
Best: Maisie Williams…

The sequin headpiece takes this already cool look to the next level.
Worst: Dakota Johnson…

We actually like the look, but we can’t say it fits the theme.
Best: Lila Moss…

We’re not really sure it fits the theme — but we’re also not sure we that we care. So gorgeous!
Worst: Irina Shayk…

Maybe we’re missing a reference point, but we’re distinctly underwhelmed.
Worst: Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian…

His is a bit dull, but hers is just inexplicably poor.
Best: Megan Thee Stallion…

Perhaps it’s a rather literal take on “gilded” but it works for us.
Best: Hailey Bieber…

We’re suckers for some white marabou feathers, as this look proves.
Worst: Hillary Clinton…

This reminds us of The Handmaid’s Tale — and not in a good way.
Worst: Emily Ratajkowski…

There’s way too much going on, and we don’t like any of it.
Worst: Olivia Rodrigo…
It’s a little bit boring, but what’s worse is the total lack of adherence to the theme!
And finally, we have Kim Kardashian…

The idea is better than the execution, but she does look fab.
Despite that, many have voiced their opinions on Kim’s dress…

And it seems people are pretty grossed out by the fact it’s Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress.
Kim has been labeled “disrespectful” for wearing the iconic Happy Birthday Mr President dress…

Twitter has been overflowing with comments from angry fans, with one writing: “Kim Kardashian wearing the real dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to the president in 1962 is disgraceful and so disrespectful. This dress is 60 years old and so unbelievably fragile with age, it should have been left alone and in pristine condition.”
Another tweeted: “For Kim Kardashian to wear Marilyn Monroe’s dress is so disrespectful.

“And especially for some of yall to say, ‘She’s the new Marilyn’ is so out of line. Also for Kim to even be dyeing her hair blonde WHILE wearing the dress just no. I’m so sorry Marilyn #MetGala2022 #MetGala.”
A third wrote: “I don’t understand why you didn’t do something original? You are your own person, whether you like it or not. You should have been you. It actually could have been interesting. Marilyn was herself, and one of a kind. Totally inappropriate to copy her.”

The dress, in which Monroe sang to the late John F Kennedy back in 1962, is a record-holding garment, being the most expensive dress to be sold at auction, totaling almost 5 million dollars.
We have to say, it’s definitely better than last year’s choice.

But that’s not the only reason Kim has been slammed online.
People have also voiced their outrage after Kim shared that she lost sixteen pounds in twenty-one days in order to fit into Monroe’s dress.

One angry Facebook user wrote: “I feel like it’s important for people, especially young women, to know this isn’t normal, healthy, or attainable for the average person. That’s a weight loss of 5 pounds per week. Why are you praising such a rapid weight loss?”
Another wrote: “This is such an unhealthy thing to be promoting it’s essentially glamorizing eating disorders. No garment of clothing is important enough to put your body through that kind of stress.”

According to an interview with La La Anthony on the red carpet, Kim tried the dress on just 3 weeks before the event and it didn’t fit…
So she went to extremes to fit into the classic gown, losing sixteen pounds in the weeks leading up to the Gala.

And actress, Lili Reinhart, is the latest to rant about Kim’s extreme weight loss.
“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are… because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month… all to fit in a f**king dress?” she wrote on her Instagram Story on May 3. “So wrong. So f****d on 100s of levels.”

She continued: “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting.”
Her rant wasn’t directly aimed at Kim but seems to relate to what the TV personality admitted just a day before.

“Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies,” Lili wrote. “I am not generally an angry person but I swear to god, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me.”
Since her rant, many on social media have praised the star for speaking out on the controversial topic, but others have berated her, claiming she’s only calling Kim out for “attention.”

One Twitter user wrote: “Isn’t it a little hypocritical to be pro body positivity but shame someone for doing what they want with their body?”
While another commented: “Actors can get into starvation mode for roles aka ‘art,’ but someone else can’t for what they consider art? Attention seeking if you ask me. Anyway, I’m losing weight to fit into a wedding dress wish me luck lool.”

Lili has since responded to those users criticizing her, posting on Twitter: “*sigh.* I do not say the things that I say because I want to be relevant or get attention,” she started her message.
The actress continued: “I speak up because I don’t see enough people with large platforms calling out toxic behavior in our industry.”

“Some people will never understand where I’m coming from and that’s okay,” she concluded.
Lili has previously addressed her own battles with the toxic diet culture of the TV and film industry.

Earlier this year, she explained how she struggled with her own body image, saying: “I didn’t think being in this industry, that is so obsessed with women’s bodies and weights, could ever mess with my own body acceptance and positivity. But it has. I wish I hadn’t grown up in a time where the media worshipped only one size of women.”
