The Met Gala was incredible this year, bursting at the seams with glamour, style, and the odd fashion faux pas.
However, Kim Kardashian seems to have ruffled a few feathers, especially for Lili Reinhart, who shared an emotional rant about “starving” celebrities.
It comes after Kim Kardashian opened up about the extreme lengths she went to fit into her dress.
It has seriously rubbed people up the wrong way.
Now, the world-renowned Met Gala took place on Monday night and hundreds of celebrities arrived dressed to impress.
So let’s take a look at some of the best (and worst) looks that graced the red carpet before we dive into the reason everyone’s annoyed with Kim.
Best: Blake Lively…
She served us two looks in one, inspired by the Statue of Liberty — iconic.
Worst: Addison Rae…
C’mon now… this is just not good.
Best: Danai Gurira…
We love this color, plus the subtle nod to colonial history.
Best: Sabrina Carpenter…
Sure, it’s a little obvious, but you can’t go wrong with a sparkly gold mega train.
Best: Winnie Harlow…
That headpiece is absolutely everything.
Worst: Phoebe Bridgers…
We love the slicked-back hair, but boy is this dress a letdown.
Best: Claire Danes…
It looks so expensive — and the veil is a lovely little bonus.
Best: Teyana Taylor…
Like a beautiful floaty storm cloud.
Worst: Kodi Smit-McPhee…
We appreciate the efforts to try something different, but it’s a no from us.
Worst: Marcus Mumford…
Yawn — this is just so boring!
Best: Huma Abedin…
It’s a little bit simple, but the draped yellow fabric really works for us.
Worst: Paloma Essler…
Something about this lingerie-esque look just screams a little “cheap.”
Best: Maisie Williams…
The sequin headpiece takes this already cool look to the next level.
Worst: Dakota Johnson…
We actually like the look, but we can’t say it fits the theme.
Worst: Lily Aldridge…
Sorry, but this is just a big ol’ wasted opportunity.
Best: Dove Cameron…
This is just so intricate and delicate — we have to stan.
Best: Iris van Herpen…
It’s giving Cher, and for that reason, it’s a yes from us!
Best: Bad Bunny…
Sorry to say, we have no notes. Love.
Worst: Kate Moss…
Kate, we expected more from you. Not angry, just disappointed.
Best: Naomi Campbell…
Face jewelry really does take any look to the next level.
Worst: Karlie Kloss…
It’s not necessarily bad — but it’s just not good.
Worst: Zac Posen…
You can’t just wear any old tux and expect us to be thrilled.
Best: Lila Moss…
We’re not really sure it fits the theme — but we’re also not sure we that we care. So gorgeous!
Worst: Irina Shayk…
Maybe we’re missing a reference point, but we’re distinctly underwhelmed.
Best: Eliza Gonzalez…
It’s giving Bjork’s swan dress in the best possible way.
Worst: Chloe Bailey…
Waaay too lumpy for our liking.
Worst: Kylie Jenner…
It’s all bad, from head to toe.
Worst: Elon Musk…
He looks as uncomfortable as this outfit makes us feel.
Best: Billie Eilish…
A strong contender for our favorite look of the night.
Worst: Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian…
His is a bit dull, but hers is just inexplicably poor.
Best: Sydney Sweeney…
We love a two-in-one look, and hers are both just angelic.
Best: Megan Thee Stallion…
Perhaps it’s a rather literal take on “gilded” but it works for us.
Worst: Maggie Rogers…
There are really few redeeming features to this look.
Best: Gigi Hadid…
We want this coat!
Best: Cardi B…
The intricate details on this chainmail dress are simply stunning.
Worst: Gwen Stefani…
We love this color — but that’s all we like.
Best: Hailey Bieber…
We’re suckers for some white marabou feathers, as this look proves.
Best: Katy Perry…
Now this is simple done right.
Worst: Hillary Clinton…
This reminds us of The Handmaid’s Tale — and not in a good way.
Worst: Emily Ratajkowski…
There’s way too much going on, and we don’t like any of it.
Worst: Amy Schumer…
Genuinely one of the worst looks we’ve ever seen.
Best: Alexa Chung…
Keeping it simple but still looking absolutely perfect.
Worst: Natasha Poonawalla…
This is just a little bit too costume-y for us.
Worst: Anna Wintour…
It’s not necessarily bad, just we expected so much more!
Best: Lizzo…
Yes, yes, and yes!
Worst: Olivia Rodrigo…
It’s a little bit boring, but what’s worse is the total lack of adherence to the theme!
Worst: Camilla Cabello…
It’s an absolute tragedy from head to toe.
Best: Nicola Coughlan…
So fun!
And finally, we have Kim Kardashian…
The idea is better than the execution, but she does look fab.
Despite that, many have voiced their opinions on Kim’s dress…
And it seems people are pretty grossed out by the fact it’s Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress.
Kim has been labeled “disrespectful” for wearing the iconic Happy Birthday Mr President dress…
Twitter has been overflowing with comments from angry fans, with one writing: “Kim Kardashian wearing the real dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to the president in 1962 is disgraceful and so disrespectful. This dress is 60 years old and so unbelievably fragile with age, it should have been left alone and in pristine condition.”
Another tweeted: “For Kim Kardashian to wear Marilyn Monroe’s dress is so disrespectful.
“And especially for some of yall to say, ‘She’s the new Marilyn’ is so out of line. Also for Kim to even be dyeing her hair blonde WHILE wearing the dress just no. I’m so sorry Marilyn #MetGala2022 #MetGala.”
A third wrote: “I don’t understand why you didn’t do something original? You are your own person, whether you like it or not. You should have been you. It actually could have been interesting. Marilyn was herself, and one of a kind. Totally inappropriate to copy her.”
The dress, in which Monroe sang to the late John F Kennedy back in 1962, is a record-holding garment, being the most expensive dress to be sold at auction, totaling almost 5 million dollars.
We have to say, it’s definitely better than last year’s choice.
But that’s not the only reason Kim has been slammed online.
People have also voiced their outrage after Kim shared that she lost sixteen pounds in twenty-one days in order to fit into Monroe’s dress.
One angry Facebook user wrote: “I feel like it’s important for people, especially young women, to know this isn’t normal, healthy, or attainable for the average person. That’s a weight loss of 5 pounds per week. Why are you praising such a rapid weight loss?”
Another wrote: “This is such an unhealthy thing to be promoting it’s essentially glamorizing eating disorders. No garment of clothing is important enough to put your body through that kind of stress.”
According to an interview with La La Anthony on the red carpet, Kim tried the dress on just 3 weeks before the event and it didn’t fit…
So she went to extremes to fit into the classic gown, losing sixteen pounds in the weeks leading up to the Gala.
And actress, Lili Reinhart, is the latest to rant about Kim’s extreme weight loss.
“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are… because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month… all to fit in a f**king dress?” she wrote on her Instagram Story on May 3. “So wrong. So f****d on 100s of levels.”
She continued: “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting.”
Her rant wasn’t directly aimed at Kim but seems to relate to what the TV personality admitted just a day before.
“Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies,” Lili wrote. “I am not generally an angry person but I swear to god, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me.”
We couldn’t agree more.
