Lizzo is known for being a body confidence queen, but it seems behind-the-scenes things aren’t all they seem.
Allegations against the star have shocked the internet.
As prior employees of the singer have spoken out against the star.
These accusations have left the internet shocked.
As they seem totally at odds with Lizzo’s positive and loving public persona.
It already seems as thought the allegations are affecting Lizzo’s career.
But now, there’s been a major blow to the singer.
She has allegedly been dropped from consideration for the Super Bowl halftime show.
Scroll on to see what’s happened.
Lizzo’s third studio album, Cuz I Love You, was a total masterpiece.
But it’s not just the brilliant music that she makes that garnered Lizzo such a legion of fans.
There’s so much more to the star…
For one thing, she’s totally unique.
Which other plus-size, dance-trained, hip-hop artist plays the flute in almost all of her songs?
Truly, Lizzo is one of a kind.
But what’s even more important than her talent?
It’s gotta be Lizzo’s incredible message. Her lyrics are all designed to inspire self-love and confidence — particularly in young women. In a world of problematic messages, she’s a real force for good.
Lizzo has dominated the stage for several years now.
Gaining some pretty high-profile fans along the way.
At the BET Awards back in 2019, there was one audience member who was truly losing her mind over Lizzo’s performance…
Rihanna.
And at the MTV Video Music Awards that same year, Lizzo made even more famous fans.
At the VMAs, the audience was pretty much all going wild for Lizzo — including Queen Latifah.
And late in 2019, Lizzo was cemented as a true icon.
The star was named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year. She was recognized for her trailblazing message of body positivity, advocacy for self-love, and her “relentlessly positive and impossibly catchy” sound.
It’s a truly impressive achievement.
“Attending a Lizzo concert feels like worshipping at the church of self-love, if your preacher was a pop star living joyfully in a big black body, delivering a sermon of self-acceptance that’s as frank as it is accessible,” author, Samantha Irby, wrote for TIME magazine.
Lizzo opened up to the magazine about being an advocate for body positivity:
“I’ve been doing positive music for a long-a** time. Then the culture changed.”
“There were a lot of things that weren’t popular but existed, like body positivity, which at first was a form of protest for fat bodies and black women and has now become a trendy, commercialized thing.”
“Now I’ve seen it reach the mainstream. Suddenly I’m mainstream! How could we have guessed something like this would happen when we’ve never seen anything like this before?” the songstress told TIME.
And even now, the world’s love for Lizzo continues to grow with her success.
2020 saw her nominated for eleven awards at the Billboard Music Awards and she won one for Top Song Sales Artist.
The same year, she also performed a sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House…
The same place she had previously performed as a young flute player.
But it seems life isn’t all positivity for Lizzo.
As the singer has revealed the struggles she has faced in her past…
In an interview with Rolling Stone, she revealed she had even been temporarily homeless.
After dropping out of college, Lizzo lived in her car while struggling to break through as a rapper.
She struggled with her self-esteem and was deeply unhappy.
But when she moved to Minneapolis and broke through onto the local music scene, things seriously began to pick up for the star…
And her fortune is impressive!
It’s estimated that she’s earned $16.5 million from music sales, plus an extra $8.8 million from her extensive tours.
But that’s not all…
She’s had brand deals with many big companies, including Dove, Urban Decay, Absolut Vodka, Google Pixel 6, Logitech, and Quay, which helped line her pockets further!
And on top of this, there’s Yitty.
Yitty is Lizzo’s shapewear brand with Fabletics, which is reportedly a huge financial success!
Plus, there’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
Lizzo’s reality show airs on Amazon Prime, and even won an Emmy!
And how is Lizzo celebrating all of this success?
Well, she’s invested in an incredible $26 million mansion.
She never fails to put on a show…
But Lizzo has faced her fair share of trolls in her time.
She wore a rather revealing dress to Cardi B’s birthday party which had many questioning her taste levels…
“She needs to respect herself! That’s the main problem for me. Big little or tiny anything in between. The woman should respect themselves to not show their entire bodies to everyone,” one person wrote.
But Lizzo has hit back at the trolls in an Instagram video…
“It’s very funny to me that people are upset that I’m wearing a see-through outfit or that I’m twerking in a see-through outfit,” she said, as per Entertainment Tonight.
“Let people live, bro. Let people wear whatever the f*** they wanna wear!” she finished.
Lizzo has taken on the trolls once more…
One fan said: “Love Lizzo for being unapologetic about being herself!”
“She respects herself, her body — that’s true love. I admire that so much about her. ‘Cuz I’m my own soulmate, I know how to love me,” another agreed.
“♉️WELCOME TO TAURUS SEASON♉️,” Lizzo wrote in the caption to her now-deleted nude selfie.
“To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie… now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted to show u how I do it au naturel.”
Lizzo also shared that she’s sharing the picture to celebrate the Dove Self-Esteem Project to help “change the conversation about beauty standards.”
We love a body-positive queen!
The thirty-four-year-old has once again shown herself to be a gem of the industry.
The star got candid about her insecurities during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
Lizzo revealed that she got with her beau Myke Wright while she was struggling with feeling “unloveable.”
The singer explained that she met Wright in 2016 on MTV’s Wonderland set.
Lizzo revealed they had “s*xual tension,” but nothing ever came of it.
“I had a lot of s**t to do, and I still was very much in my ‘I feel unlovable’ place, and I still was very much not where I wanted to be career-wise,” she explained.
“Even if a person came around that I was googly gaga about, I had these wild defenses up that made it almost impossible for a true intimate relationship to occur.
“When the time was right, we came together, and we just recently were like, ‘Oh, we’re together. This is official,'” Lizzo said.
And it seems like they’re in it for the long haul, “we’re not playing any games with each other anymore. We’re very much locked in,” the star added.
“There’s nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”
Since then, Lizzo has spoken out about the comments she receives online about her body…
And it seems she’s tired of the criticism.
She took to TikTok to vent her frustrations at the conflicting messages she receives.
The comments allegedly go from “you’re so big” to “you’re so little,” making her realize “the discourse around bodies is officially tired.”
She continued: “I have seen comments go from, ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick. Why’d you lose weight?’ to ‘Oh my gosh, why’d you get a BBL? I liked your body before.’
“To ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big! You need to lose weight—but for your health!’ to ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little you need to get a** or t**ties or something,’ to ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get all that work done? It’s just too much work’.
“Are we okay? Do you see the delusion?” she added.
“This body? Is art. And I’m going to do whatever I want with this body.”
She later said that if people had to pay for their messages then it would be a whole different story.
“I wish that comments costed y’all money. So we could see how much time we’re f**king wasting on the wrong thing,” she added.
You can watch her TikTok here.
She also added: “I’m sorry that my perfect face and rockin’ body offends you… I can’t help that I’m God’s favorite.”
“I’m gorgeous…I am the beauty standard,” she laughed.
And now, she’s even threatened to quit fame over the comments she’s receiving after posting another bikini picture that got trolled in the comments.
“I JUST logged on this app, and this is the type of s**t I see about me on a daily basis,” she tweeted.
“It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food.’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO.”
“I’m not trying to BE fat. I’m not trying to BE smaller. I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy. This is what my body looks like even when I’m eating super clean and working out!”
“I’m tired of explaining myself all the time, and I just wanna get on this app without seeing my name in some bullsh**.”
“The Love definitely do not outweigh the Hate on social media…all because I’m fat???? This is CRAZY,” she continued.
“Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a F**KING FARM…” she concluded.
SZA has spoken up in Lizzo’s defense.
“I be wondering where all the virtue signaling ,well spoken shit talking , internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending,” she wrote on Twitter.
“Where the fuck do y’all be at for Lizzo? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down?”
“So people don’t go to war for Lizzo in this app?” a fan asked.
SZA replied: “NOT EF******NUFF. For as much free love, encouragement and positivity she embodies n shares on every app daily ? The ratios’s don’t add up.”
“I also dgaf who don’t agree. It’s been on my mind for a minute … makes me upset.”
But recently, some shocking allegations against Lizzo have rocked her fanbase.
Shortly after the news of a lawsuit filed against Lizzo by three former backup dancers gained widespread attention, others who have worked with the singer also stepped forward to support the plaintiffs’ claims.
Among them was Sophia Nahli Allison, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker who had left the production of Lizzo’s documentary in 2019, titled “Love, Lizzo.”
Taking to her Instagram stories and Twitter on Tuesday evening, Allison shared a photo of herself filming a concert and recounted her alleged unpleasant experience with Lizzo.
“In 2019, I was the director of Lizzo’s documentary and traveled with her for about two weeks. However, I had to walk away due to the disrespectful treatment I received from her. She displayed arrogance, self-centeredness, and unkind behavior,” Allison began.
She further stated that she felt unsupported and unprotected in a difficult situation and trusted her instincts to leave. She described feeling “gaslit” and deeply hurt and expressed solidarity with the dancers who filed the lawsuit.
Allison’s testimony shed light on what she deemed a dangerous abuse of power, a sentiment echoed by others, including Charlene Sanchez, who reposted Allison’s Instagram story and described her experience on the documentary as a “nightmare.”
The dancers’ lawsuit was filed against not only Lizzo but also her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and Shirlene Quigley, Lizzo’s dance team captain.
The allegations included claims of creating a hostile work environment through sexual, religious, and racial harassment, along with two lewd incidents involving a banana.
Additionally, Lizzo was accused of questioning a dancer’s commitment due to weight gain and pressuring the dancers to interact with nude performers in Amsterdam’s red light district against their will.
The shocking claims against Lizzo have been trending on Twitter and sparking discussions, even catching the attention of Beyoncé.
During Beyoncé’s performance on her Renaissance tour, she seemingly left Lizzo off the list of musical icons referenced in her song “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).”
Videos from the concert show Beyoncé repeating Erykah Badu’s name four times, where Lizzo’s name would typically be mentioned. Despite this, Lizzo’s name continued to appear on the screen behind Beyoncé.
And now, there’s been another major repercussion for Lizzo’s career.
According to Daily Mail, an NFL insider has revealed the singer has been dropped from Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show consideration.
“Talks of Lizzo being a part of the Halftime festivities or performing the National Anthem are dead now that she is surrounded by scandal,” the source said.
“Lizzo has raked in a massive amount of money but her minute is pretty much up it seems and no one knows if she will be able to recover from this. If she speaks out, her statements are shredded. If she stays quiet, she is called a coward. Either way, it does not appear at this moment that she can recover from this.”
As the controversy continues to make headlines, the singer herself is keeping quiet.
What do you think of the claims against Lizzo?
