Mexican actress Lyn May has announced that she is pregnant at the age of sixty-eight.
May, known as one of the main stars of Ficheras cinema, announced she is expecting a child with her twenty-nine-year-old partner, Markos D1, on Instagram.
Sharing a picture of the 2 of them, May wrote in Spanish: “I am very happy to announce that I am 3 months pregnant and @markosd1official is very happy that he will be a dad.”
While Markos D1 took to his own Instagram account just a short while later to share an image of himself and Lyn May. Although Markos did not specifically confirm the news with his Instagram post, he did write in the caption, “#2019” which is believed to be the year that the couple began their relationship with each other.
May’s news does, of course, come as a shock to many people due to her age and the complications and difficulties that older women can experience during pregnancy.
Should the sixty-eight-year-old’s pregnancy safely make it to full term, May will break the Guinness World Record of the oldest woman to have given birth.
The title is currently held by Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara who took the title back in December 2006 after she gave birth via cesarean section to twin boys, Christian and Pau, at the Sant Pau hospital, Barcelona, Spain.
At the time, she was sixty-six years old and had conceived her children through IVF treatment in the U.S. This also makes her the oldest person to give birth to twins.
Maria sadly passed away just 3 years later.
As per Newsweek, May, whose real name is Lilia Mendiola de Chi, was previously married to Antonio Chi-Xuo from 1989 for just short of two decades. However, Chi-Xuo sadly died in 2008 and the same year that May started her relationship with Guillermo Calderon Stell who she then married.
During an interview on El Minuto Que Cambió Mi Destino (The Minute That Changed My Destiny), May confessed that she did not want to let Chi-Xuo go, so she dug up his remains.
“Yes I dug it up, I always had it there in my bed,” she said. “My mother fought with me every day, she told me, ‘You are not going to let him rest.’ We fought every day because I would not let go of him. He was my partner. I lived twenty-five years with him, a twenty-five-year marriage. I didn’t want to let him go, I wanted him.
“At night she would tell me, ‘Daughter, let him rest, let him go.’ I said, ‘No, I will not let him go,’ until one day my mother convinced me – and he was the only one I married in the church, a great man.”
