A man who disguised himself as a woman in a wheelchair has thrown cake at the Mona Lisa painting at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The man, according to TMZ, reportedly hurdled a piece of cake at the Mona Lisa portrait in a testament to the “earth,” although… We’re not sure how the 2 link.
“Think of the Earth. There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think about it. Artists tell you, think of the Earth. That’s why I did this,” he said, as per the news outlet.
The man, who claimed his act was on behalf of the earth, disguised himself as an old woman in a wheelchair before he jumped out of his wheelchair to throw the cake at the Mona Lisa.
The painting, which was created by Leonardo da Vinci between 1503 and 1519 hangs in the largest room of the Louvre Museum. Although it’s not the first time the painting has almost been… attacked, it certainly is one of the weirder ways to do it.
As staff cleared the smeared desert from the painting, which is protected by glass, the disguised man was taken away for psychiatric care.
As the man was leaving, he also threw roses across the floor of the gallery.
It really is a weird one…
But, it is still not the most shocking incident…
The painting has been through quite a lot, being stolen in 1911 by a museum employee, and damaged by an acid attack in the 1950s, resulting in the painting remaining behind glass since that moment.
Oh, and let’s not forget that a woman also threw a ceramic cup at the painting in 2009, according to Axios.
So, it seems the disguised man is just one of many people who, for some reason, have a bone to pick with the Mona Lisa.
What do you think about his actions?
