A man, who recently got married to his now-wife, shared that a particular “toxic” group of women in his family took one prank way too far.
The man in question took to Reddit to ask: “AITA for making all the women in my family leave after they all showed up to my wedding wearing white?”
He went on to explain that his “mom, stepmom, stepsister and grandmother” as well as some “aunts and female cousins” have set up a strange group in which they all “tease and roast every new woman that enters the family by marriage by setting up ‘tests’ to see if they deserve to be part of the family.”
Sadly the user, who goes by the name More-Concern3267, shared that his wife was their next victim and that he’d already had to confront them after they “went behind my back and roasted [his wife’s] looks and job and I discovered they’ve been doing it on Facebook.”
He said that he had to force them to apologize, which they were reluctant to do, and the only way to do it was to threaten to un-invite them from his wedding. After that, they all brought gifts for his wife to say sorry.
However, that wasn’t the end of their games.
The big day finally rolled around and More-Concern3267 wrote: “There was talk about the women in the family wanting to pull a prank on my wife by wearing white and called it the ‘ultimate test’ to see how my wife react.
“My brother warned me so I announced that if any one of them showed up in white I’d have them kicked out including mom. They said this wasn’t true and they’d never do such a thing. “
But it seems the women didn’t listen to his warning, and blatantly lied to his face, as he revealed: “they showed up to my wedding one by one wearing white dresses and each and every one of them was told to leave after they tried giving excuses by either making scenes or getting the men involved.
He said even his “Mom and aunts also showed up in white but refused to leave. I threatened to take harsher action and mom was pissed telling me to step aside but I didn’t let her in. I had her leave while the men in the family were watching stunned, dad was on my side and supported me a lot. […] My wife was hurt beyond measure but the women in the family were p*ssed.”
He then said he stopped talking to his family after his mom tried to make him bring his wife around to apologize.
The post received thousands of comments, with every one of them in support of the man. One user wrote: “I am shuddering at the thought of any woman having to marry into a family like that, but having OP for a husband is definitely a silver lining.”
Another commented: “NTA – your family is toxic and I am so sad for your wife that they would do that, but also so happy for her that she has a husband who will support her and have her back.
“I’m sorry your family tried to hijack your wedding for a power play, but you did the right thing, and your marriage will be stronger because of it.”
