It’s sort of a given that, if an elderly person or someone with a health issue comes along, you should give up your seat for them.

And of course, for decades, men have been expected to adhere to the rules of chivalry.

The social code that originates from the early twelfth century expects men to display a certain level of “politeness" towards the opposite sex.

And the social norms that come along with chivalry are certainly alive and well in modern-day society.

We’re sure that all the ladies out there are familiar with their man offering to pay the bill, or having a man open a door for them, for example.

But times have changed massively since the term was first coined.

And now, it's a huge talking point.

The rise of feminism has certainly had a part to play.

Many women now reject the outdated idea of chivalry in the name of equality of the sexes. Because, let’s be honest, as women, we can open the door or pay the bill if we want to.

But what about if someone is pregnant?

More specifically, should you give up your seat for someone who is pregnant?

Well, one man doesn't think so.

The trouble was ignited when the man in question took to a subforum on Reddit.

Titled "Am I The A**hole?", the subforum sees users post about a recent issue or conflict they've experienced and users then vote on whether or not the original poster was in the wrong.

In a thread titled "AITA for not giving up my seat to a pregnant woman?", the original poster asked the community if it was wrong of him to refuse to give up his seat for a pregnant woman.

The man noted how he had just finished a 10-hour shift. "So last night I’m on the bus, and a very heavily pregnant lady gets on. She looks around for a seat, only to find there are no available ones left. I’m the closest to her, so she starts giving me the imploring eyes," he wrote.

He continued.

"I wasn’t rude or anything, I just told her no, I’ve had a long day and my feet are sore. I don’t want to give up my seat."

The man goes on to say that the woman started crying...

"She started crying about how she’s a pregnant single mom, and I told her I’m sorry, but that was her personal choice and she can’t expect other people to accommodate her life choices."

The man then said he told the woman that it wasn't his job to support her.

Which then lead him to be called out by an elderly man who was also using the bus.

So, was this man in the right for taking this stance on the issue?
