Man Uninvites Entire Family To Wedding Because of Cousin’s ‘Joke’ but Isn’t Sure if He’s Right

A man has uninvited his entire family to the wedding due to a very distasteful “joke” his cousin made…

We’re going to use the term “joke” here very lightly because it was just plain disgusting, what he had to say.

And because his entire family took the cousin’s side and said the man was causing a “divide” by uninviting him to the wedding, they were also crossed off the guest list.

He asked users on Reddit if he was overreacting by doing so but almost all of them agreed that he made the right decision…

And when you hear what the so-called “joke” was, you’ll probably agree too.

Supportive comments poured in…

Writing to the “Am I The A**hole?” section on Reddit, he explained what happened.

“My partner (22f) and I (24m) are getting married in 6 weeks. She is Eastern European and I’m from Spain (where we live). We’re having a small wedding with less than 15 people invited. Just our families and 1 close friend. This is partially because of covid but mostly because we prefer it that way,” he started.

He continued:

“Last week I was spending time with my family, and my cousin (25m) starts to talk to me about the wedding. He says congratulations, but he says it with a smile on his face and it sounds like he’s taking the p*ss. I tell him thank you but ask what is so funny?”

“He says to me literally ‘How much did she cost?'”

“Well my jaw basically hit the floor, I asked him what is he talking about, and he makes it even worse, he says ‘I’m thinking of getting a Slavic girl myself.'”

“I was so shocked I couldn’t find any words,” he says. “I just started muttering ‘I’m leaving’ over and over again as I put on my shoes to leave.”

“My family has made some distasteful jokes about my interethnic relationship before, but never jokes about sex trafficking before. When he said that it made me furious. It didn’t sound like he was joking. Even if he was, I feel that it crossed a line.”

Let me tell you, he didn’t just cross the line, he fully leaped over that line.

The disrespect is unreal. Imagine insinuating that you’ve got a “mail-order bride,” or even suggesting that she has been bought? How disgusting.

Understandably, the man said he didn’t know how to tell his soon-to-be wife, but he knew he would never be allowing her to be in the same room as her cousin ever again.

“After driving for 90 minutes to get home, I had enough time to think about it,” he continued the story. “I called my cousin and told him he is no longer invited to the wedding.”

But it was the next day when things took a turn for the worst.

The man was left with lots of missed calls and texts from his family, including his parents and his sister telling him he was overreacting and trying to cause a divide in the family.

He took control of the matter and uninvited them all too. Good on him, I say.

“I told them all that they’re also uninvited.
“My parents are not contributing to the cost of the wedding. They gave us €1,000 ($1,219) for an engagement gift, but after being uninvited they demanded it back. Even though I feel that you shouldn’t be allowed to take back a gift, I gave it back to avoid drama and to tell them that we don’t need their money.”

“I don’t think I’m overreacting because it’s not fair to my partner to have people there on her big day who think that way about her.”

“Even though my family make up half of our total guests, I don’t want anybody there who feels that way. I’m okay with having none of them there. Am I overreacting/ am I the a**hole?”

Let me put it into the simplest of terms: No, you are not the a**hole.

The cousin is and because the family defended him and his disrespect, so are they. They don’t need to be at your wedding.
Whoever this man on Reddit is, we sincerely hope you have the most amazing day surrounded by all the people that actually respect the both of you!
