Man Who Recorded Ahmaud Arbery Killing Arrested for Murder | 22 Words

After video footage of the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery surfaced online, people across the globe demanded justice.

Now, breaking news has reached us that the man who recorded the footage has been arrested.

Here's the full story, including the shocking footage.

Ahmaud Arbery was shot dead in Brunswick on February 23 while he was jogging through the Satilla Shores neighborhood.

 The twenty-five-year-old black man was unarmed and out jogging when he was shot by 2 white men who claimed they thought he was a burglar.

 The twenty-eight-second video shows Arbery jogging around a neighborhood on a sunny afternoon in late February. The footage ends with 2 loud gunshots.

After the video circulated on social media...

A large crowd of protesters marched through the area where Arbery was killed.

Arbery's parents, Wanda Jones Cooper and Marcus Arbery Sr, spoke at a press conference after the footage was released.

"If my son killed the McMichael's son, he would have been arrested on the spot," Marcus Arbery said.

Marcus Arbery said his son, who was an aspiring boxer, was athletic and known for taking daily jogs around the neighborhood.

"He took his body very seriously, always ran and had pride in everything he did," he said. "It cuts me deeply how his life was taken. I would have preferred them to come and take my life instead."

Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, were arrested on 8 May for his murder.

Following the GBI’s announcement of the arrests, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr released a statement, saying, “This tragedy cannot be undone, but this is the first step in what I am confident will be a swift road to justice." According to ABC, they told police they grabbed their guns and hopped in their truck to pursue Arbery after seeing him running in their neighborhood, believing he was responsible for several recent burglaries.

The father claimed his son got out of the truck holding a shotgun and was attacked by Arbery, as per the police report obtained by ABC News.

The 2 men tussled over the gun before Arbery was shot, as seen in the video, which was allegedly taken by a bystander.

Arbery was pronounced dead at the scene by the Glynn County coroner.

 No weapons were found on him, according to the police report.

Arbery would have turned twenty-six just a couple of weeks ago.

Cooper-Jones described her son as humble, kind, well-mannered, and beloved by his family and friends. "Ahmaud didn't deserve to go the way that he went," she said.

The footage is truly harrowing...

And since it emerged, people have been quick to point out that if it wasn't for the footage, nothing would have been done about Arbery's murder - which took place back in February.

Additional footage quickly emerged...

And it showed Arbery walking in an empty construction site.

Some people decided to use this footage, and his past, as a way of justifying his killing.

"It doesn't matter if he broke into a construction site. It doesn't matter if he wandered in by accident. It doesn't matter if he had a right to be there. Two at-best vigilantes, at-worst lynchers do not have a right to pursue and kill another man in cold blood. #AhmaudArbery," wrote one user.  "Why must we always assume that the Black Man is the criminal in cases such as that of Ahmaud Arbery and why do people go to such lengths to prove it? #ahmaudarbery," wrote another. 

And of course...

Many people pointed out how  a video of his killing had to surface online for anything to be done about his murder.

There is a loud call for justice...

And celebrities and politicians including presidential candidate Joe Biden, LeBron James, LL Cool J, and Kim Kardashian West are among those who have spoken out.

LeBron James expressed his outrage.

The NBA star penned this tweet last week. "We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes! Can’t even go for a damn jog man!"

Actress, Viola Davis, provided a call to action.

"Stand with us and demand that Ahmaud’s murders are charged in his death. They are not immune from prosecution and should be tried for murder."

Countless celebrities have weighed in.

Phillipa Soo took to Twitter to express how tired and angry she is.

But one celebrity caused outrage with their post about Arbery's killing.

Justin Timberlake has been slammed for his post about Arbery.

Justin posted this picture of Arbery to his Instagram last week.

He then captioned the post: "If you’re not outraged, you should be. Justice for #AhmaudArbery."

But people quickly noticed something about the post.

Justin had, like several other celebrities, turned off the comments.

After seeing his post, actress Amanda Seales posted a video to her Instagram to call out the star.

In the 3-minute clip, Amanda put a spotlight on "white celebrities" who have voiced their support for justice for Arbery. "Dedicated to @justintimberlake and the white artists showing 'solidarity' posting about #ahmaudarbery but closing their comments/IG replies," she captioned the video.

During the video, the star asks, in the format of a song, white celebrities to engage with racist online users.

 "This goes out to all those white celebrities. You see I turned off my comments 'cause I got tired of arguing with racists. But you know what - it's your turn. "It's time for you to see/Who's been following you. They gonna show ya, show ya true colors/Confederate Karen and her husband, red-faced Ken."

The actress went on to say that it's not enough for a white celebrity to post a "jpeg" with comments closed.

 "Saying I don't see color, over and over and over again/It's the bitter smell of strange fruit in the air, yeah yeah yeah," referring to the song "Strange Fruit." "Scroll through and tell me what you see/Ha! A whole lot of racists, a whole lot of privilege. Talk to 'em. let 'em know, 'You all on some bulls-t out here'/'You buy my album but you not even realizing I'm doing Black music and I'm saying Black things.'"

Many fans were backing Amanda's corner...

And they felt it was inappropriate of Justin to disable to comments on this particular post.

Fans have begun to slowly turn against Justin...

And many even been expressing how they now "hate" the singer.

People didn't feel it was appropriate for Justin, as a white man, to turn off his comments.

Just as Amanda preached in her Instagram video.

But some have been left torn over the situation.

Some fans can't decide whether Justin's decision to turn off the comments was out of respect or was just a "cop-out."

And many have quickly jumped to Justin's defense...

Saying that he more than likely turned off the comments to prevent insensitive and offensive comments - which, let's face it, is what would have happened.

But at the end of the day...

People shouldn't be focusing on a celebrity's Instagram, and they should instead be focusing on the only important thing here - and that is getting justice for Ahmaud Arbery.

 Arbery's mother spoke out about her son's murder.

Wanda Cooper-Jones spoke to TMZ.

And during the interview, she said would like prosecutors to seek death penalty sentences for Travis and Gregory McMichael. "Coming from my point of view, my son died, so they should die as well," she said.

She continued:

"I would like for all hands that were involved, that played a part in my son's murder, to be prosecuted to the highest."

Could the death penalty actually be sought?

In Georgia law the death penalty can be sought if "the capital offense was outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible, or inhuman in that it involved torture, depravity of mind or an aggravated battery to the victim."

Wanda revealed she has spoken to the newly appointed prosecutor, Joyette Holmes.

But, she wasn't allowed to say anything more.

 A strange note was left at the exact spot where Arbery was killed.

A card was placed at the makeshift memorial for Arbery on the same street he was shot dead.

 And it seems to imply there was a witness to the crime.

 And it is now being treated as evidence in the case.

Arbery's family attorney, Lee Merritt, told TMZ that a picture of the note will be sent immediately to GBI agents along with investigators working for District Attorney Joyette Holmes.

 Merritt says the note is a "critical piece of evidence" and says it's now part of Ahmaud's legal team's case file.

Investigators are currently working on getting more info about the note.

No name was signed at the bottom and no other context was provided in the note.

Here's the note in question:

"Ahmaud, I am so sorry. I should have stopped them. I am so sorry," it reads. Make sure to stay posted for further updates.

And, in the latest update in the case, another arrest has been made.

William "Roddie" Bryan, the man who recorded the video of Ahmaud Arbery's killing, is now the third suspect to be arrested for the young man's murder.

William claimed he was simply a witness to the killing and had zero involvement.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest, saying he has been hit with charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. This is a breaking news story. More details will be added soon.
