It’s safe to say Mark Hamill is not a fan of the Trump family.
Star Wars is one of–if not the–most famous film franchises in the world. Because the story has been told in so many different ways over the years, consumers range from young to old, and there’s no telling who might be a fan.
With how many people across the world enjoy Star Wars and its many properties, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ivanka Trump and her family are fans of the films. The businesswoman showed off her family’s love for the movies in a tweet back in 2019.
In September of that year, Ivanka tweeted a photo of her husband and children surrounded by Star Wars toys. In her caption, she wrote, “The Force is strong in my family.”
Unfortunately for Ivanka and her family, the reception on the tweet was probably not what she had hoped for. She even got a response from one of the most important actors in the Star Wars universe: Mark Hamill.
While he’s had several successful roles over the years, Hamill is most known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker. He’s appeared in many Star Wars films over the years, from 1977’s Episode IV–A New Hope to The Last Jedi in 2017.
Trump saying the force is strong in her family is a reference to one of the most famous lines from the franchise: May the force be with you. But, it’s clear that Hamill’s politics don’t align with Ivanka’s, so he didn’t want her aligning herself with the phrase.
Because of that, he retweeted Ivanka’s post and added: “You misspelled ‘Fraud.'” He went on to add the hashtag: #GoForceYourself.
That tweet was far from the first time Hamill spoke out against the former President’s family on the social media platform. Boasting over 3 million followers, the actor has been using his platform to condemn the Trump administration for many years.
Hamill’s tweet condemning the Trump family was a total hit among his following. In less than a day, the post received just under half a million likes and approximately 80,000 retweets.
In addition to fans supporting Hamill in his response, many also wanted to turn his retweet into an even bigger movement. Several users called for people to tweet the hashtag #GoForceYourself so it becomes a trending topic.
Mark Hamill never shies away from being vocal online. In recent years, he also called out Star Wars fans for their mistreatment of co-star Kelly Marie Tran.
The star tweeted a photo of him with Tran back in 2018 with the caption, “What’s not to love?” along with the hashtag #GetALifeNerds.
Hamill’s support came after Tran–who was new to the Star Wars saga and played Rose Tico in The Last Jedi–deleted all of her Instagram posts after facing months of online harassment.
Tran has faced sexist and racist attacks since her casting. Tico’s Wookieepedia page was once edited so her name was was “Ching Chong Wing Tong” and her home was “Ching Chong China.”
Obviously, Mark wasn’t standing for any of the hate headed her way, and we already know he’s never going to hold his tongue.
