And it’s true when they say — you never know what happens behind closed doors.

It turns out that the actor experienced a very dark childhood.

He’s detailed his struggles with major depressive episodes throughout his adolescence. when speaking to Anthony Mason for CBS back in 2014.

And Ruffalo was actually embarrassed about his desire to act, which resulted in him keeping it hidden from those close to him.

And he’s opened up about it.

The heartbreak doesn’t end there.

He suffered greatly in the aftermath.

“When he died, it rocked me out of a dark depression,” he recalled. “The moment he left, I realized that death wasn’t an escape, that suicide wasn’t an answer.”

He went through a lot…

In 2001, he had a dream about being diagnosed with a brain tumor and went to his doctor to check what was going on. Shortly afterward, he was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma. The tumor was benign, but the removal process left Ruffalo paralyzed in one side of his face and deaf in one ear.

And sadly, things got even worse…

In 2008, Ruffalo’s brother Scott Ruffalo was shot in the head in his own home.

And although there have been arrests in the case, no one has been charged and the case remains unsolved.

The mystery is tough for the actor.

“It’ll always be the great mystery of my life,” Ruffalo said about not knowing who killed his brother. “I make peace with every mystery in my life, you just live alongside it.”

It’s truly remarkable how he’s got through it all.

And the fact he has made peace with his tragedies rather than refusing to accept them is truly admirable.

Although we wish him all the best, another shocking revelation from the actor has resurfaced…

Speaking to W Magazine back in 2011, Ruffalo explained that he had a dream which actually became his reality.

But things got weirder when the actor said he rang up the doctors about it.

Ruffalo also candidly spoke about the experience at the Acoustic Neuroma Association back in 2013 and said he didn’t delay his trip to the doctors.

“I went to [the doctor] that morning and I said, ‘listen, I had a really scary dream last night and you’re probably going to think I’m crazy, but I think I’d really like to get it checked out,'” he confessed.

And he revealed more…

“You just deal with it. You go on. I’m fine now, I only lost my hearing in one ear. I see it as kind of a gift in a weird way. Your priorities become very clear. My relationship to acting became very clear,” said the Marvel star.

The actor then went on and recalled the incident after the scan…

“She came in [after the scan] and she was white as a sheet, and she said, ‘you have a mass behind your left ear that’s the size of a golf ball. We don’t know what it is exactly, and you’ll need an MRI,'” he revealed.

“And I thought, ‘yep, It’s not a great time to say I knew it, but…'” he added.

Despite experiencing facial paralysis temporarily after the operation, the actor’s symptoms cleared up…

However, he permanently lost hearing in his left ear.

But what exactly did he dream of?

“I had this crazy dream that I had a brain tumor, I just woke up and knew I had a brain tumor,” he said.

“There was no way that I didn’t. It was pretty crazy,” he added.

What do you think about that confession?
