Mark Ruffalo slapped the s*** out of Channing Tatum

Well, well, well, if it isn’t another spicy Hollywood story to get our popcorn popping!

Mark is best known for playing The Hulk

But before that, have you heard the story of why Mark Ruffalo decided to play the Hulk in Avengers? It’s one for the books.

It all began when Ruffalo was approached by director Joss Whedon, who envisioned him as the perfect casting choice for the Hulk, the green-skinned, muscle-bound alter ego of mild-mannered scientist Bruce Banner in the Avengers franchise.

Ruffalo was interested in the proposition, but it was more than just the chance to join a blockbuster franchise that piqued his interest.

Being a dad made him want the role even more

The main factor that lured Ruffalo into becoming the Hulk was his own children. Ruffalo is a father of three, and the idea of playing a superhero in Avengers thrilled his kids to no end.

Picture this: your dad, not just as a movie star, but also as the Incredible Hulk! How cool is that?

For Ruffalo, the prospect of bringing joy to his children and becoming their superhero off-screen was too delightful to pass up. He’s also an activist with a strong commitment to social and environmental issues.

When he learned about the Hulk’s storyline – a scientist turned superhero fighting to protect humanity – he saw parallels with his own life.

He found in the Hulk a symbol of resilience, strength and standing up for what’s right.

The Hulk, he thought, could be used to inspire people to take action on important issues – now how amazing is that?

Why did Mark slap Channing?

  via Getty

Ruffalo has now confessed that he “slapped the s*** out of” our beloved Magic Mike, aka Channing Tatum, while filming their new movie ‘Foxcatcher.’

Now, this isn’t your average on-set slapstick shenanigans.

So there they were, Ruffalo and Tatum, in the middle of filming their deeply serious and dramatic film. This wasn’t a scene that called for dance-offs or Hulk-smashing.

Nope! It was just good ol’ fashioned acting. And what does Mark Ruffalo do?

He decides it’s the perfect time to give Channing Tatum a taste of his Hulk hand.

While filming an interview on Hot Ones, the Avengers star was asked, “Fact or fiction: is it true that you once accidentally popped Channing Tatum‘s ear during a particularly physical scene in Foxcatcher, where he told you before the take, ‘Just slap the s**t out of me?’”

“Oh, there was a lot of that,” Ruffalo responded.

“And it was easy to do because he had beaten the s**t out of me so many times,” he continued.

Ruffalo explained how he spent around “four months of learning how to wrestle together” with his co-star and believed that Tatum “has 30 pounds on [him].”

“So when it came time to smack the s**t out of him, I was like, came from Alabama,” he joked.

Now, imagine this. You’re Channing Tatum, just minding your own business, fully invested in your character when suddenly – WHAM! – you get a slap straight from the Hulk’s playbook.

We’ve all wanted to slap someone at work now and then, but come on Ruffalo! You’re supposed to be the nice Avenger!

But here’s the kicker – it wasn’t even in the script!

Apparently, Ruffalo went all method on us and decided to give Tatum a real-life experience of what his character was going through.

Talk about commitment!

Now, if there’s one thing we can take away from this hilarious incident, it’s that Mark Ruffalo is passionate about his craft. Either that, or he really doesn’t like Channing Tatum.

But considering how he later described Tatum as a ‘sweetheart,’ we’re guessing it’s more of the former than the latter.

Another day, another Hollywood actor getting slapped.

But don’t worry Channing Tatum, at least you can say the Hulk himself once slapped you.

advertisement

Not many can claim that honor! And as for Mark Ruffalo?

Well, let’s hope he keeps his Hulk hands to himself on future film sets. We wouldn’t want another unsuspecting actor falling victim to an unforeseen slap attack.
