People are pushing Matthew McConaughey to run for the position of governor of Texas.

And it looks like it could be a real possibility...

Matthew McConaughey has some big plans.

He is now considering running for the position of governor in his home state of Texas, as a Democrat...

Now, McConaughey isn't usually known for his politics.

The fifty-one-year-old performer first rose to fame in cult '90s slacker comedy, Dazed and Confused, as the adorable David Wooderson. His performance in the movie was basically catchphrase central.

McConaughey took longer to reach his full potential.

Through the late nineties and early noughties, McConaughey starred in a wide array of slightly cheesy romantic comedies - though his charm and appeal were still impossible to deny.

He did eventually move into blockbuster territory.

McConaughey has had smaller roles in a wide array of truly massive Hollywood movies, including 2013's The Wolf of Wall Street and 2011's Bernie.

This led McConaughey into more dramatic roles.

In 2013, he starred in The Dallas Buyers Club, a role which earned him a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, SAG Award, and an Oscar.

His role in the acclaimed television series, True Detective, further cemented him as one of the most talented actors working today.

McConaughey's acting range is hard to deny.

Since his re-emergence on the dramatic acting scene, he's starred in movies such as Interstellar (2014), The Sea of Trees (2015), Free State of Jones, Gold (2016) and The Dark Tower (2017).

But, in spite of these more "serious" roles ...

McConaughey has managed to continually retain a sense of humor within his work, often taking on more lighthearted roles - including in raunchy comedy, Magic Mike, in 2012.

It seems like there's nothing that McConaughey can't do...

And now it seems he's set his sights on something higher.

Earlier this year, on an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the talk show host brought up the topic of running for governor of Texas.

"Is it true?" He asks. "That you might consider running for governor in Texas?"

"Mr. McConaughey... It's a simple answer. Yes or hell yes?"

Upon hearing this, the A-List actor starts laughing but does not reply directly to the question. However, Colbert keeps pushing.

At the time, it seemed he wasn't keen.

"I have no plans to do that right now," McConaughey says. "I'll say this... Look, right now, no. I don't get politics. Politics seems to be a broken business. Politics needs re-defining in its purpose."

But he seems to have changed his tune.

And the internet is loving it!

Speaking on The Balanced Voice podcast, he lets his intentions be known.

"It's a true consideration. I'm looking into now again, what is my leadership role? Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What's my category in my next chapter of life that I'm going into?"

And now, Gilberto Hinojosa has said he truly believes he can beat Gov. Abbott in the next election...

He says Texans are eager for new leadership.

Hinojosa says Matthew can't go it alone though...

Claiming he won't win the 2022 Republican primary because of the "right-wing extremists" in the Texas GOP.

Gilberto says McConaughey could be the perfect fit for the Dems as his political views line up.

Hinojosa says Matthew's stance on gun reform is strong and will gain him support from people who are tired of the endless mass shootings.

However, his thoughts on issues like climate change, healthcare, education, and abortion haven't been made clear...

So Hinojosa's encouraging him to publicize those views.

Gilberto says the party would do everything to help him make his plan as simple and successful as possible...

The deadline to enter for any party is December, so he'll have to be fast.
