Maya Rudolph has claimed that David Letterman “embarrassed and humiliated” her on his show.
Now, we all know and love Letterman for being the host of the Late Show with David Letterman…

And the TV veteran has firmly cemented himself as the face of all things showbiz.
He’s somewhat of a national treasure here in the United States…

But in more recent times, it seems as if the new generation really doesn’t want to carry on seeing Letterman in this positive light.
The internet has pulled up an interview Letterman conducted with Maya Rudolph back in 2009.

She shared her story and it doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
Rudolph rose to fame back in 1999.

This was in large part thanks to her joining the cast of SNL.
Since those days, Rudolph has enjoyed lots of success!

You may recognize her from the iconic movie Bridesmaids in which she played the female lead.
And many know Rudolph for one role in particular…

She played Kamala Harris on SNL throughout the 2020 presidential election.
For this role, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

But Rudolph has always had something of a tenuous relationship with fame.
“It would always feel like someone was stealing my soul,” she explained to The Wall Street Journal.

“That’s where, over the years, I created a persona to protect myself,” she admitted.
“I’ve definitely gotten much better.

“When I’m uncomfortable, I try to be funny,” Rudolph said.
“I know I’m a working actor and people know who I am, but I don’t feel like a celebrity, because that word means something else today to me.

“There are a lot of different types of celebrities these days and a lot of self-made celebrities where people are famous for being famous, and that isn’t what I do,” she said.
However, Rudolph acknowledged that she sometimes finds it hard to interact with interviewers…

“Believe me, I am not a Pollyanna who’s like, I smile all day, every day.
“I get stressed out, I get pissed off!” she said.

But one story Rudolph shared about an interview from hell has got the whole internet talking!
“Maya Rudolph just gave the oddest interview where she said it wrecked, embarrassed, and humiliated her, and broke her heart. A bit much?” one fan tweeted.

“He also apologized in that same episode!” agreed another.
“Imagine how she’d cope with the issues non-celebrities face. I’ve never felt ’embarrassed and humiliated,'” said a third.

A fourth opined: “Letterman did apologize to her later on his show. And she’s still sore about it??”
Rudolph reportedly “did not have a good time” on David Letterman’s show.

“He said my name wrong, and I just sat there, like, I grew up my whole life in love with you.
“And now my heart is broken.

“And I’m sitting here embarrassed and humiliated,” she said.
“I didn’t know how to handle it.

“I didn’t know how to come up with something funny to say.
