It has just emerged that there is actually a powerful meaning behind the signature pearls that Kamala Harris is always seen wearing, especially the ones she wore today for her and Joe Biden's inauguration.

Read on to find out what they mean...

Now, the suspense surrounding today has been building for months.

Since President Biden's election victory on November 7th, our country has experienced political tensions like never before.

Most people argue that Biden's win was a fair one...

After 4 long days of vote counting - and plenty of recounting - the Democrat was projected as the forty-sixth President of the United States.

However, people on the other side of the political spectrum didn't take his win so readily.

Trump instantly attacked Biden's win with several unproven accusations of electoral fraud - and, of course, his loyal supporters added fuel to the flames with gusto.

But his efforts were to little avail...

Because, today, Joe Biden was officially sworn in as the forty-sixth President of the United States.

Of course, Trump didn't attend the inauguration.

He confirmed his absence in a tweet earlier this month before being banned from Twitter.

Instead, Trump left Washington D.C on Air Force One this morning...

And headed for the Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.

But regardless of Trump's controversial absence, the inauguration went ahead smoothly...

And the entire world watched on as President Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, made their way through the sacred ceremony.

Biden's swearing-in was an emotional moment for many Americans...

And it signalled a whole new era for our country.

And of course...

How can we not mention Lady Gaga's performance of the national anthem?!

Biden's first speech as president struck a chord with viewers, too.

The new president gave a lengthy and emotional speech, where he addressed the deeply divided nation on what the next 4 years will hold under his ruling.

Biden promised to "write an American story of hope"...

As well as weighing in on the devastating effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the issue of racial inequality across the country.

"Millions of jobs have been lost. Hundreds of thousands of businesses closed. A cry for racial justice, some 400 years in the making, moves us. The dream of justice for all will be deferred no longer. A cry for survival comes from the planet itself, a cry that can't be any more desperate or any more clear now."

He also became the first POTUS to ever challenge white supremacy in his inauguration speech.

He said this:

"The rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism, that we must confront and we will defeat. To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America, requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy - unity."

All in all, it has been a very successful day for the forty-sixth president...

But the internet is distracted by something else entirely.

And that's everyone's outfits.

Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris were all suited in different shades of purple.

Obama was dressed in a plum-colored 3 piece with a statement gold belt to top off the look.

We were completely smitten.

Then we have Hillary Clinton, who opted for a more traditional look...

The bright frills were a risky touch, but paired with the duller shade of her jacket, it works.

And then finally, we have the one and only Kamala Harris...

Now, if you're looking for a combination of bold and beautiful, then look no further than the vice president of the United Sates.

Combined with dark gloves and signature pearls on her neck, Harris really pulled off what could have otherwise been a wild choice of an outfit.

And of course, we couldn't help but pry into the symbolism behind their choice.

People seemed to immediately pick up on the fact that there was a little trend going...

And they all had their own theories behind the obvious color choice.

Well, regardless of whether the purple theme had a hidden meaning or not, there was certainly one thing there today that signified something incredibly important.

And yep, that was Harris' signature pearls that she wore around her neck.

Now, Harris is no stranger to a killer set of pearls and she's forever spotted wearing a beautiful pearl necklace or delicate pearl earrings.

And as you can see...

They've been her signature look for quite some time now!

But as for the pearls Harris chose for today?

Well, the necklace was designed by New York-based Puerto Rican designer, and former friend and muse to Andy Warhol, Wilfredo Rosado.

The former fashion director of Giorgio Armani, Rosado launched his eponymous high jewelry line a decade ago.

Last year, he founded a contemporary fine jewelry line, W.Rosado, with a collection of personalized pearl jewels, each sphere embedded with a symbol or letter picked out in gold and gemstones.

It was this innovative approach to pearls that prompted Harris's stylist to ask Rosado to submit designs for the vice president - although he had no idea his creation would be worn on such a historic occasion.

"Kamala represents power and a tough woman," Rosado told Town & Country, "and pearls are so gentle, feminine, and precious."

He combined the idea of toughness and femininity by suspending Australian South Sea pearls and diamonds within elliptical yellow-gold links, inspired by the gold chains worn by hip-hop artists.

It's a very different approach to pearls than those worn by American politicians in the past, but Harris' inauguration necklace links her to another powerful black American woman.

Rosado revealed that he also designed a pair of diamond earrings for Michelle Obama when she was first lady, but she wasn't allowed to accept them as a gift. Later, though, President Obama bought them for his wife's 50th birthday.

Pearls are also associated with wisdom, integrity, and purity - which is why they're often worn by brides...

And this certainly explains why Harris has always been seen wearing them!

So, there you have it!

It's clear that pearls will always be Vice President Harris' thing, and they certainly symbolise the strong and powerful woman that she is.
