Soccer player Megan Rapinoe will receive the nation’s highest civilian honor, as announced by the White House recently.
The Olympic gold medalist will join some big names to receive the honor…
Including the likes of Simone Biles, Denzel Washington, and Steve Jobs.
And if you thought that’s exciting…
The White House even released a statement calling her a “prominent advocate” for fighting hard for equal pay within the country.
“Megan Rapinoe is an Olympic gold medalist and two-time Women’s World Cup champion,” read the statement.
“She also captains OL Reign in the National Women’s Soccer League. She is a prominent advocate for gender pay equality, racial justice, and LGBTQI+ rights,” the statement concluded.
According to reports, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is only “presented to individuals who have made exemplary contributions” in the United States.
Those selected definitely have “demonstrated the power of possibilities,’ as per the official statement.
Megan told a media outlet she was “truly honored to be chosen for the award…”
“I am humbled and truly honored to be chosen for this award by President Biden and feel as inspired and motivated as ever to continue this long history of fighting for the freedoms of all people,” she said.
She even quoted American author, Emma Lazarus…
“Until we are all free, we are none of us free,” said the Olympic champion.
Congratulations to Megan!
