Shortly after the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that shook the USA on September 11th, 2001, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have paid tribute.
This week, the famous couple visited New York City.
And their first stop yesterday was to visit the World Trade Center, the main target of the attacks twenty years ago.
The new World Trade Center was built on the site on the Twin Towers and now stands as the tallest building in New York City.
Meghan and Harry also went inside the building to the One World Observatory.
The pair were joined by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, plus his wife Chirlane McCray, and their son, Dante. New York Governor Kathy Hochul was also there for the visit.
Following the visit to the WTC, the pair also went to the 9/11 memorial.
The memorial comprises waterfall pools with bronze barriers surrounding them. These barriers are engraved with the names of the victims of the World Train Center attacks, alongside those killed in the attacks on the Pentagon and in other hijacked planes.
This visit marks the couple’s first public appearance since the birth of their second child, Lilibet, back in June.
And people are glad that they chose to pay their respects to mark the occasion.
“I lost my nephew on 9/11. I appreciate that they came to show their respect. They have nothing to gain by doing this. They are a beautiful couple. Their Royal problems have nothing to do with us. So thank you Megan and Harry for going to the WTC,” wrote one Facebook commenter.
”A little late but we do appreciate them paying their respects to our fallen heroes and all the innocent victims. 911 is a day that will forever live in our hearts and minds. Sending prayers to all the families. May your loved ones, friends, co-workers rest in peace,” another echoed.
We have to agree.
This is a beautiful gesture to mark a truly tragic event, and a wonderful decision by Meghan and Harry.
