Meghan and Harry have a major TV deal up their sleeve – and it’s one that’s worth megabucks. But it seems they may need it, after being forced to pay back the Queen for a rather large bill…
Following the birth of Archie, their home needed some improvements.
The British taxpayer was landed with the £2.4 million price, to be precise.
Meaning the money had to be reimbursed to HRH, the Queen herself.
It seems the pair may have to pay back sooner than they thought…
But the question remains, how exactly are they going to do this?
The pair hit it off, and they immediately arranged to see each other again, eventually going on to have 2 more dates in London.
The pair officially went public with their relationship.
Though she was already pretty well known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, the California-born actress was thrown into levels of fame that she had never experienced before.
The world quickly became Meghan and Harry obsessed.
And people were delighted to hear the news of their engagement later that year.
The couple officially tied the knot in May 2018 and shortly after, had their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
They make for the cutest little family.
But things haven’t been as rosy and smooth-sailing as they have been appearing.
Joining the British royal family was never going to be an easy transition, given that a person has to give up their entire life in order to be a part of the monarchy.
But Meghan’s experience has been especially difficult.
And many attacked the Duchess, slamming her as “fake,” with some going as far as accusing her of breaking up the royal family entirely.
To the point where Kensington Palace was forced to issue a statement, pleading for the press and the public alike to take a step back when it comes to their scathing reporting and bombardment of Meghan.
And until this, day this hasn’t stopped.
Because they announced earlier this year that they would be officially stepping down as senior members of the royal family.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” the post read.
And announced that they will be splitting their time between the U.K and North America.
“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity,” they wrote.
This was huge news…
And it was bound to have ruffled a couple of feathers in Buckingham Palace.
Is how hard this whole experience must have been for Meghan – a new mother.
Between being mom-shamed and slammed, Meghan truly can’t relax without having to look over her shoulder.
They seem to be settling much more into quieter and more normal family life.
Lady Colin Campbell, a notorious anti-Meghan stan, released a book Meghan And Harry: The Real Story in which she describes some first and second-hand observations about the former royals, and in particular, Meghan’s ambitions in the political sphere.
There has been no evidence of the 2 crossing paths, but it seems as though Campbell still loves to discuss their business, so much so that she released an entire book on it. Sounds a little obsessive.
Daily Mail’s royal expert, Russell Myers, has claimed that the Queen, as well as a number of the other prominent royals, are going to be left “distressed” after hearing some of the claims that Meghan wanted to discuss, including the fact that she felt unprotected by the family when she was pregnant with Archie.
Reports have come in that the pair are planning on pitching a TV show that will take a “political stance” on feminism and racial inequality.
These issues are something Meghan has spoken up about in the past. Just last month she spoke at the Girl Up Global Leadership Summit, for instance.
In fact, people regularly slam her online for it. Take last weekend for instance, when Meghan found herself in the firing line for speaking at an online summit organized by “When We All Vote,” in which she told voters “If you are complacent, you are complicit.”
Nevertheless, the couple have signed a major deal.
And Netflix has taken the bait, according to the New York Times.
The couple has founded a yet-to-be-named production company that will make documentaries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming, according to the publication.
“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”
And that’s not all.
And have claimed it could be worth up to $150 million.
Sky News’ Royal Correspondent Rhiannon Mills has some thoughts about what it could mean for their royal debt.
“So if they’re bringing in that money, it makes sense that they’re going to pay this money back to the taxpayer for this home that they still want to keep here in the UK.”
“The reason that people again started talking about just how much money it cost to refurbish it was because at the start of the year Harry and Meghan announced they wanted to step away from royal duties.”
Perhaps this new venture is a way for the pair to reduce their debt to the royal family while they pursue other avenues over the pond?
