But it seems in the lead up to the huge event, Melania Trump has broken an important tradition.
... a tradition that's been taking place for more than 7 decades.
Safe to say, opinions on her controversial move have come in strong.
With inauguration day fast approaching...
One week.— Dr. Jill Biden (@Dr. Jill Biden)1610547522.0
Dr. Jill Biden has already begun announcing her plans for her time in the White House, with Melania Trump reportedly having not made any contact with her.
That's right, Melania is breaking a longstanding tradition of introducing the new First Lady to the White House.
Refusing to give Jill Biden a tour of the family wing.
The seventy-year tradition is meant to allow the 2 to talk about life in the White House.
This dates back to the 1950s when Bess Truman, wife of President Harry Truman, invited Mamie Eisenhower, wife to Dwight D. Eisenhower, to the White House.
Sadly, that offer hasn't been extended to Dr. Jill Biden.
A former senior official in the Clinton administration said: "I recall both interactions that then-first lady Hillary Clinton had with Barbara Bush in 1992 when she first arrived at the White House, and in 2000 when she hosted Laura Bush.
"Both were after contentious campaigns and both visits could not have been more gracious and welcoming."
Another White House official described the petty move as "abhorrent."
As Michelle Obama invited Melania to the White House before January twentieth back in 2017.
According to White House press secretary Josh Earnest...
The pair discussed "raising kids at the White House and you know, obviously, the first lady's two daughters spent their formative years of their childhood at the White House and Mrs. Trump's son will also spend some important years of his childhood here at the White House."
Michelle Obama also praised her predecessor, Laura Bush, for her tour...
"As you all know, I deeply admire and respect Laura. And I think that it's important to collaborate with people you admire and respect, regardless of party. That's what makes a democracy work, truly," she said.
As well as this, Donald Trump has indicated that he will not attend Joe Biden's inauguration...

It has been reported that Trump will instead head to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on the morning of Joe Biden's inauguration.
