It’s back and it’s bigger than ever. Last night we saw our favorite celebrities hitting the iconic golden carpet in the biggest fashion event of the year. Of course, we’re talking about the Met Gala and this year’s theme played upon a classic – In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which left plenty of room to explore different colors and styles. The star-studded night played host to some of my favorite looks ever… And maybe some of my least favorite too but hey, you win some, you lose some.
Either way, I’m going to take you through some of the most talked-about looks of the night and give you a thought or two.

Billie Eilish.
While I was heavily disappointed by Billie’s VMA look – that awful, black oversized jumper dress – she really pulled it back at the Met Gala. This gorgeous Oscar De La Renta tulle gown had us on our knees and paired with thirty pieces of Cartier jewelry and a classic Marilyn Monroe hairstyle, we just can’t get enough.
Rating: 9.5/10.
Kendall Jenner.
Kendall Jenner did exactly what Megan Fox couldn’t do at the VMAs, and that was rock a glitzy, transparent dress. Everything about this custom Givenchy number, from the open, plunging neckline, to the thick choker, and the classic train has us hypnotized. Quite possibly one of my favorite looks at the Met Gala. Ever.

Megan Fox.
Since I mentioned Megan Fox, we might as well do her next.
A total contrast from her borderline illegal look at the VMAs. While I don’t usually like cross-ties unless they’re on shoes, she kind of pulls it off. Kind of. The red though, exquisite choice.
Rating: 7.5/10.
Pete Davidson.
Oh, Pete. What is this? This look seems to better suit a previous theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination because I see the nun/vicar combo here and it ain’t working. The hair looks great though.

Will Welch.
Wow. I’m totally smitten by this look. The muted tones, the personalized details on the suit, the hair and glasses combo. He really captured the classic “American Independence” vibe that was set for the event.

Emily Blunt.
Glamorous. Timeless. Sophisticated. What more could I ask for from Emily Blunt in this Miu Miu gown?
Rating: 9.2/10.
Rihanna.
Okay, but seriously Why bother turning up if you’re just going to turn up like this? I expected more from you, RiRi.
Rating: 1.7/10.
ASAP Rocky.
And her man was no better to be honest, but at least he’s got a pop of color on there.
Rating: 3/10.
AOC.
A powerful woman in a powerful dress. AOC arrived at the Gala, alongside her designer, Aurora James, wearing a simple, white, off-the-shoulder dress with the words “Tax the Rich” splattered at the back. Iconic.
Rating: 7.1/10.
Rose, of BlackPink.
When I first heard Rose would be attending this prestigious event, I was so excited. Now I’m just wishing they sent Jennie instead. Underwhelming, almost morbid, this look did absolutely nothing for anyone.
Rating: 2.5/10.
Lil Nas X.
Lil Nas X did not disappoint, that’s for sure. Not only did he present us with 3 different outfits, he absolutely dominated the gold carpet in all of them. This one was probably my favorite, but the regal cloak was also up there. Just wow. The only thing that could have made this a little better was if the color was another… Maybe baby pink. What a statement that would have been.

Troye Sivan.
Besides the shoes, this outfit is really giving me boring ol’ gym class vibes. What were you thinking, Troye?

Timothée Chalamet.
I’ll excuse the shoes because this is a look. While most men opt to play things safe with a classic black tux at events such as these, only a handful, including Timothée have gone above and beyond. There are a few more on the list.

Gigi Hadid.
Does Gigi Hadid ever get it wrong? Never. This white, sleek Prada gown with an intense slit at the back is giving us life. Not to mention that bouncy, red hair. Stunning.

Elliot Page.
I want to love his Balenciaga suit, but I can’t. Besides the splash of color via the green rose, which is a subtle nod to the queer community, there’s nothing special going on here.
Rating: 4/10.
Gabrielle Union.
Hm, at first I didn’t know what to make of this outfit. It wasn’t giving me anything in particular. Though I can see the imagination behind it, I also detest the disk print so much. But I love Gabrielle Union… so…

Addison Rae.
Now, there’s been a wild debate surrounding TikTok stars being allowed to attend the Met Gala and I have to admit, I’m just not here for it. But in terms of the outfit, Addison looks nice, but I think she thought we wouldn’t notice that she recycled Kourtney Kardashian’s Christmas fit. Yikes.
Rating: 5/10.
Finneas.
Good attempt by Finneas. The hook on the blazer, though it might be small, it’s a winner.
Rating: 6.5/10.
Maria Sharapova.
A legendary tennis player, but not a legendary Met Gala attendee. As much as I love her, I hate this dress. The pleated sleeves, the gold color, every part of it screams trashy. I’m so sorry, Maria.

Irina Shayk.
Did not expect the hairstyle but the dress is stunning. However, I’m not sure if it fits the theme well, or am I just being too harsh? Either way…
Rating: 6.8/10.
Lorde.
Just like Pete Davidson, I think Lorde missed the mark with her outfit, though it would have been perfect for the Heavenly Bodies theme. That bag is a disaster too.

Frank Ocean.
Frank went for a stylish, black, suede, 3-piece suit by Prada with a white T-shirt and a green, alien-looking robot baby. The significance? I couldn’t tell you. But if I had to take a guess, maybe it’s about the politics behind the term “alien”? The theme is American Independence after all… Yikes.
Rating: 7/10.
Ciara.
The hair: On point. The make-up: On point. The dress: Meh. The style is actually quite nice, but the color and the texture are kind of tacky… Just a bit. Not to mention there’s a massive number 3 on the front. Well, at least Ciara stuck to the theme…
Rating: 4.6/10.
Chloe and Halle.
This gets a pass. I like how they’ve gone for completely contrasting outfits.
Rating: 7/10.
Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber.
I had to do them together because their outfit choices are equally as bad. I didn’t know the theme had changed to “security in front of a trashy club.” Just no.
Rating: 1/10.
Kim Kardashian.
Honey, honey, honey no. What is this? I don’t care if you’re bringing me metaphorical vibes, or whatever, Why? Give me glam. Give me glitter. And I’ve read that Kanye west was the driving force behind this look and that’s what you get for listening to an ex husband.
Rating: 2.1/10.
Olivia Rodrigo.
After such a wonderful gown choice at the VMAs, I can’t believe Olivia Rodrigo had the nerve to turn up like this to the Met Gala. I’m actually pi**ed off. And the shoes, just don’t even get me started on the shoes. Stop.

Serena Williams.
Okay yes, I can vibe with this. The feather-ombre effect is a powerful one, so no wonder she chose it. But just from that snippet of leg I can see on the right hand side, I’m hoping she doesn’t take the cloak off because metallic silver lace print? So 2012.
Rating: 7.1/10 (4/10, if she takes the cloak off).
Channing Tatum.
Just because your face is nice, doesn’t mean you can just turn up to the Met Gala in a lame black tux. Come on, Channing. Wake up.

Gemma Chan.
Gemma Chan’s nod to Anna May Wong with this Prabal Gurung dress is giving us life. Wong was Hollywood’s first-ever Chinese-American star so it’s no wonder why Gemma would want to use her for inspiration for her 2021 Met Gala look. It paid off.
Rating: 8.9/10.
Taylor Hill.
Taylor Hill did not come to play. This gown is everything. Of course, we’ll just have to ignore the theme because I’m not sure where these Swan Lake vibes fit, but regardless, she looks amazing.
Rating: 8.8/10.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.
They outdid Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin as well as Rihanna and ASAP Rocky and that’s all that matters. To be honest, there wasn’t much couple competition this year. Extra shoutout to Camila, she looks great in that purple ensemble.

Jennifer Lopez.
I don’t know what yee-haw vibes are going on here but I don’t like them. Jennifer, how could you?

Simone Biles.
This dress matches the stardom of Simone Biles and wow. Just wow.

Normani.
This Valentino ball gown was made for Normani. The plunging neckline, paired with the synched waist is a lethal combination that no one can deny. Queen behavior.

Giveon.
Finally, another man that didn’t just opt for a basic, black tux. The bar is pretty low for the men.
Rating: 6/10.
Amanda Gorman.
Imagine being talented and beautiful? Amanda opted for a bold, blue Vera Wang gown that contrasted beautifully against her skin tone. Inspired by the Statue of Liberty, the dress was re-imagined to take a modern twist on the landmark. The front of the dress was kept short while the back consisted of a flowing, sequined tulle material that left a trace of her wherever she went. According to reports, the look consisted of over 3,000 hand-stitched crystals. The poet paired the look with matching strappy heels and a clutch.
Rating: 9/10.
Anna Wintour.
She’s not the Editor in Chief at Vogue for nothing. This glamorous Oscar de la Renta gown ticks all the right boxes. It’s out there. It’s bold. It’s stylish. We wouldn’t expect anything less.

Who actually told Kim Petras that this was okay? What the f***?

Karlie Kloss.
A round of applause, please. This is just stunning. What is there to fault? I actually can’t find anything.

Hailey Steinfeld.
Another one straying from the theme but she also worked it, I’ll give her that.

Lili Reinhart.
Our of all the floral designs, this one wins. The 3D effect on the flowers near the neckline really make Lili stand out from the crowd. We stan.

Zoe Kravitz.
I adore Zoe, but she’s so much better than this chainlink fence dress.
Rating: 4/10.
Kristen Stewart.
She’s giving me life. Ever since she chopped her hair, Kristen’s really been on a roll with her fashion choices, and the Met Gala was no different. We love it.
Rating: 7.5/10.
Cara Delevigne.
Did someone say tacky political statement? Yeah, I did. This outfit is really giving feminism a bad name. Come on Cara, this ain’t it.

Saweetie.
According to reports, this sparkling skintight gown designed by Christian Cowan is embellished with 10 million crystals. Speaking to E! News’ Naz Perez the singer and rapper also had the Black American heritage flag and Filipino flag draped behind her because “that’s what makes me an American girl.”
Valentina Sampaio.
Valentina spent the night gracefully lifting her wings to create a Phoenix’s illusion and let me tell you, she served looks. This really made it into one of my favorite outfits of the night.

Keke Palmer.
Keke Palmer turned up to the glitzy event in this stunning high-neck column gown but beyond just looking amazing, the talented actress kept us entertained throughout the night. Bad b****** only.

Dan Levy.
I’m obsessed with this look. Not only is the blue Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson and Cartier costume a vibe with those exaggerated puffy sleeves, but it’s also a political statement done correctly. Glamour UK reported that “The artwork was a tribute to the late American artist David Wojnarowicz, one of the most influential LGBTQIA+ activists, who painted the original piece.”
Rating: 9/10.
Kaia Gerber.
This look will always be timeless. Boring, but timeless. the hairstyle wins a few extra points but overall disappointing.

Megan Thee Stallion.
The “Th*t Sh*t” rapper hit the spot with this baby pink slanted tulle dress. The deep, sweetheart neckline and the barely-there strappy heels contrasted from her usual bolder looks but it was still powerful nonetheless.

Yara Shahidi
Yara graced the big stage with this stunning, straight gown and veil. We were smitten.
Rating: 8.4/10.
Iman.
The sixty-six-year-old Somali-American model attended the Met Gala along with designer, Harris Reed, with both women adorning beautiful headwear. However, Iman’s dress stood out from the crowd in particular, for the sheer brilliance of the costume. Playing with classic designs across the years and emphasizing them, she really stole the limelight at this year’s event.
