Reports of ‘fake vocals’ in multiple songs from Michael Jackson’s 2010 compilation album have resulted in the tracks being removed.
Three of Michael Jackson’s songs have been “pulled from streaming” after rumors were sparked that he never sang them.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sony Music confirmed the move that the hit songs Breaking News, Keep Your Head Up, and Monster have been “removed” from the album, Michael.
A joint statement from both Sony and Jackson’s estate has since been released…
“The Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music decided to remove the tracks ‘Breaking News,’ ‘Monster’ and ‘Keep Your Head Up’ as the simplest and best way to move beyond the conversation associated with these tracks once and for all.”
“The focus remains where it belongs – on the exciting new and existing projects celebrating Michael Jackson’s legacy… Nothing should be read into this action concerning the authenticity of the tracks – it is just time to move beyond the distraction surrounding them,” the statement said.
This all began back in 2014 when a fan allegedly sued the 2 parties, claiming that the songs mentioned “don’t feature his [Michael Jackson’s] vocals.”
This started a whole controversy, which has finally came to a head this year. However, it is believed that both parties have denied the allegations, and the judge ruled in their favor.
The court came to the conclusion that both sides were unable to fully confirm if the late singer did in fact sing the songs on the album.
Despite the backlash, Jackson’s estate attorney, Howard Weitzman, testified during the lawsuit that Jackson was the one singing on the track.
According to Variety, he said: “We have complete confidence in the results of our extensive research as well as the accounts of those who were in the studio with Michael that the vocals on the new album are his own.”
