After a nearly three-week long absence from Good Morning America, Michael Strahan is back on-air!
On Nov. 15, his co-anchor Robin Roberts announced, “Can I just say we have tears of joy because we have Michael back here at the desk with us?”
Strahan responded, “It is great to be back.”
The last time Strahan had appeared on GMA before his hiatus was on Oct. 26.
An ABC spokesperson had previously shared a statement with TV Line, explaining why the co-anchor was absent from GMA: “Michael Strahan will not be with us this week as he is dealing with some personal family matters. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and concerns.”
No details of the family emergency have been shared yet.
Besides being away from GMA, Strahan was also absent from Fox NFL Sunday.
The former NFL pro returned as an analyst to Fox NFL Sunday on Nov. 12. He participated in the Salute to Service segment, which honored veterans.
The segment, filmed live at Colorado’s US Air Force Academy, featured inspirational stories from veterans. During the show, Strahan told cadets, “You are loyalty, you are bravery, you are courage. Every one of you has a hero inside you.”
Strahan had an emotional connection to the segment, as his father Gene Strahan served in the military as an Army Major. The TV personality moved to Germany at 9 years old when his dad was stationed there.
He didn’t move back to the US until the summer before his senior year of high school, when he was sent to live with his uncle Art so he could play football at Westbury High School in Texas.
