But her journey didn’t begin just there, as straight after graduation the aspiring actress and her fellow roommate at the time turned a “running joke” into an actual project…

Yes, we’re talking about the play Matt & Ben, which consequently gained a huge amount of popularity, after both Kaling and college friend Brenda Withers, portrayed Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

The comedy skit went on to receive an award at the New York International Fringe Festival and even ran a successful two-year run Off-Broadway.

Just after the success of Matt & Ben, producer Greg Daniels  “recruited” Kaling in 2004 to write for an American version of the mockumentary-style TV comedy, The Office…

Kaling went on to portray the character of Kelly Kapoor and remained in the hit show from 2005 all the way up to 2013, where she also served as an executive producer for the series from 2008.

It was here the actress met B. J. Novak for the first time…

And they immediately hit it off, as they say in all romantic love stories.

Back then Kaling told Vulture that “they were never really dating.”

But confessed no one really knew, which has got everyone raising their eyebrows!

Can you really get that wrong?

Clearly, not…

“We were never really dating, we were never really not dating. We didn’t know. No one knew. All you’d know for sure as that you’d always find one of us next to the other, even if we weren’t getting along,” said the actress.

But fans were quick to notice the irony…

That both Kaling and Novak’s characters were actually dating at 1 stage on the show…

Coincidence or maybe it was just meant to be…

According to PEOPLE, Kaling even acknowledged their relationship as “weird as hell.”

And now, she has recently opened up about the topic of relationships and if Novak is really the father of her gorgeous kids…

According to Marie Claire, the actress recently said it “doesn’t bother her” if people think B.J. Novak is the father of her children…

Does that mean he actually is?

Well, it is not exactly that simple, since Kaling refused to address the elephant in the room…

“If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it,” she said.

Shedding light on the matter, the actress revealed she wants privacy when it comes to disclosing information about her kids…

“I want them to be old enough to talk to me about it and [tell me] how they want me to talk about it,” she said.

“I’m the only parent my kids have… I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there are fewer things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line,” confessed the actress.

And now, Kaling has opened up about 1 of her hit shows, The Office, reflecting on its lasting legacy.

Though the show was a huge success, Kaling admitted that it was very inappropriate and wouldn’t let her children, who are 3 and 4, watch the show.

The hit show had a total of 201 episodes.

And Kaling appeared in 157 out of 201 episodes.

“I kind of think maybe never,” she said when asked about her children watching the show whilst appearing on Good Morning America.

“That show was so inappropriate. We always talk about – the writers I’m still in touch with – we talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t make now.”

She added: “Tastes have changed, and honestly, what offends people has changed so much now.”

The forty-three-year-old actress admitted that the show still remains popular to this day due to the taboo nature of it.

“There’s something kind of fearless about it,” she said.

However, though Kaling wouldn’t allow her kids to see her work at their current age…

She said she’d be more open to allowing them to see her past work when they get a bit older.

Preferably once they reach their teens.

Kaling also talked about what her character, Kelly Kapoor, would be doing nowadays in real life.

“I think she probably would have quit Dunder Mifflin to be an influencer and then probably would have been canceled almost immediately,” she said.

The star also mentioned other characters in the series, saying that most of them probably would have been canceled too in the modern world.
