And it goes to show just how much dogs do for us.

The heroic 2-year-old pup wagged his tail excitedly while being awarded on Sunday, in Kyiv, with President Zelensky and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as per the Daily Mail.

Patron, the Jack Russell Terrier was awarded a medal for military service thanks to his skills in detecting more than 200 explosives since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Government began on February 24, this year. And since the heartbreaking war began, many people have sacrificed their lives to protect Ukraine, displaying a great deal of patriotism in order to protect the lives of many, and stand for what is right.

But, people aren’t the only heroes of this war. Because, as we’ve seen puppies, found during the war, stand cutely on guard with soldiers, we’ve also seen dogs do their best to protect everybody around them.

“Today, I want to award those Ukrainian heroes who are already clearing our land of mines,” Zelensky said, as per the news outlet.

“And together with our heroes, a wonderful little sapper – Patron – who helps not only to neutralize explosives but also to teach our children the necessary safety rules in areas where there is a mine threat,” he continued.

Patron wasn’t the only one receiving the award, though.

His owner, Myhailo Iliev, a Major in the Civil Protection Services, was also awarded the medal of honor. You know what they say… Dogs are like their owners. And in this case, it’s most definitely true.

People have a lot of respect for little Patron, with the emergency services even writing a Telegram post calling the furry hero their “militant dog.”

We commend the heroes of this tragic war and send our prayers to all those who have sacrificed their lives to save another.
