We are all used to the M&M characters that we know and love.
There’s something comforting about seeing the usual gang of red, orange, green, blue, yellow and brown all together.
However, the brand has introduced a new character for the first time in over a decade. The new spokescandy is proving to be rather controversial…
One person said: “The chocolate industry has dedicated less than 0.15 percent of its revenues toward eradicating child slavery from its supply chain. But yeah the purple ‘inclusivity’ M&M is great.”
Mars, who owns M&M’s, said: “Designed to represent acceptance and inclusivity, our newest member is known for her earnest self-expression.
“Keen self-awareness, authenticity and confidence are the driving forces behind Purple’s charm and quirky nature.”
Purple is the third female M&M to join the group, but she is the first-ever female peanut!
Mars Wrigley’s Global Vice President Jane Hwang said that “there is so much about our new spokescandy that people can relate to and appreciate.”
Mars launched the character with a song called ‘I’m Just Gonna Be Me’, which is available on all major music platforms.
They plan to donate $1 per stream to Sing for Hope, a non-profit focused on uniting people through the arts.
