Mom Dies Saving 5-Year-Old Twins in Crash By Shielding Them | 22 Words

A mom has tragically died in a horrific car crash this week...

But she incredibly managed to save her 5-year-old twin boys by shielding them with her body.

Which is what makes this story all the more tragic.

People have been left horrified by the incident...

Hillarie Galazka, twenty-nine, was driving home with her 5-year-old twin sons on Monday this week when the worst possible thing happened.

Her Saturn Ion car was rear-ended by another vehicle on the entrance ramp of the I-96 near Davison, WJBK reported.

According to the Michigan State Police, the driver of the other vehicle is a twenty-five-year-old man who has 2 prior convictions for driving on a suspended license.

Upon the impact, it has been reported that Hillarie threw herself over her 2 boys in a desperate attempt to shield them from the collision.

Her mom, Jodie Kelley, explained:

"Her body saved them. The boys say they saw her open her eyes, and look at them, and then she closed her eyes, never opened them again. They remember that."

Jodie said the twins only suffered minor injuries because Hillarie threw her body in front of the boys...

And she was the one who took the brunt of the impact.

Hillarie was tragically pronounced dead after the accident, leaving behind her twin boys and another son.

"I'm just glad the babies survived a tragedy for the family," her brother, Jacob Galazka, said.

"Everyone loves those kids. Everyone loves Hillarie. She is a good-hearted, strong, beautiful woman. She didn't deserve this death."

An investigation is ongoing and police are awaiting blood results, a spokesperson for the Michigan State Police told PEOPLE on Thursday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by her mom to raise funds for Hillarie's funeral and expenses.

"My daughter was tragically rear-ended in a car accident and she passed away on scene - her twins boys survived accident because of her I believe it was her protecting them as a strong loving mother. She has 3 beautiful boys she is leaving behind. The suspect that hit her is in custody and the state police are handling it. Please any help with donations will help with the funeral all prayers are welcome too," Jodie wrote.

Rest in peace, Hillarie.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family and sons during this terrible time.
