Optical illusions are strange, right? Well, they're about to get stranger.
@TimKietzmann Teleportation gone wrong— Rob B (@Rob B)1621308759.0
One mom baffled the internet with an optical illusion that appears to show her daughter sinking into concrete.
Now, optical illusions will never cease to amaze us.
For decades now, these clever tricks of the eye have left us completely fascinated - if not a little confused.
Let's take a quick look at some of the best examples...
Can you see the hidden cat?
You can only see this optical illusion if you shake your head (I’m serious) 😂 https://t.co/WhtZ1b0r4t— Dr Michelle Dickinson (@Dr Michelle Dickinson)1547090916.0
If you zoom out on the original illusion, or look at a very small version of the image, the cat should become clear.
What color are the circles in this image?
A new Munker illusion, which I call confetti. All the dots in the background are the same color (RGB 250, 219, 172)… https://t.co/SjFqXWQmng— David Novick (@David Novick)1531924880.0
This colorful image went viral in 2018 after its creator, University of Texas professor, Dr. David Novick, shared it on Twitter.
Despite what you may see, it turns out all the circles are actually the same color. "The differences are subtle, though, and depend on the size of the image when it's viewed," Dr. Novick tweeted.
Who's wearing high heels here?
In May 2018, a Twitter user posted a picture of 2 coworkers laughing and hugging - however, it looks like the guy in the photo is rocking a light blue shirt, white skinny jeans, and black heels, when it's in fact the woman.
If you stare at this image for around thirty seconds, it will disappear before your very eyes.
Stare at the image for about half a minute without moving your eyes and watch as it gradually disappears. This is a… https://t.co/k47vUT1DQa— David McPhillips (@David McPhillips)1520888705.0
Well, not really.
The image, which was posted by Dr. David McPhillips of Primary Eye Care Associates, is a result of a famous optical illusion called Troxler's fading circle.
Is it a hole in his arm? Or just a clever tattoo?
A photo of this tattoo went viral in 2018 after it was posted on the subreddit r/Damnthatsinteresting. It's not yet clear who the original artist behind the tattoo is, but it has fascinated thousands.
Does this floor need fixing, or is it just an illusion?
Amazing optical illusion at Casa Ceramica😍 (the floor is totally flat) https://t.co/lLPG684cBZ— Hanna Brus (@Hanna Brus)1614712542.0
This Twitter user shared a photo of this cleverly deceptive tiled floor designed by UK-based tile company Casa Ceramica - I wonder how many legs have been broken on this floor?
Another weird flooring illusion...
Here we go. Here's the FNAC carpet https://t.co/RTDqo3bw3J— CARPET (@CARPET)1505501797.0
In September, Twitter account @WHS_Carpet - which specializes in calling out "bad carpets" - brought this disorienting photo to the internet's attention.
How about the color of these strawberries?
2色法によるイチゴの錯視。この画像はすべてシアン色（青緑色）の画素でできているが、イチゴは赤く見える。 Strawberries appear to be reddish, though the pixels are not. https://t.co/Ginyhf61F7— Akiyoshi Kitaoka (@Akiyoshi Kitaoka)1488244057.0
This illusion was created by Japanese psychologist and professor, Akiyoshi Kitaoka - the color red had been completely removed from the image, yet people still see red strawberries.
Can you find the cat?
Originally posted by Reddit user, waterhauler, this simple photo went viral in 2016.
Hint: The ginger cat is sleeping on the center log.
What happened to Kendall Jenner's leg?
This star-studded photo of Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Baldwin went viral in 2017 because of the absence of Kendall's left leg.
Where did it go?!
More missing leg drama...
Reddit user jr0d7771 posted this photo in 2016 along with the caption: "Find the middle girl's legs."
Again, where did they go?!
Is this girl underwater or not?
This little girl appears to be underwater at first glance - however, she also looks like she's jumping into the water, which makes no sense at all.
But, while the filtered light and air bubbles make it seem like the girl is underwater, her dry hair proves that she isn't.
Sand dunes or craters?
Like an Escher painting, sand dunes seem to reproduce the same shape indefinitely #Volare http://t.co/8VvKKnnWtN— Luca Parmitano (@Luca Parmitano)1375357628.0
European Space Agency astronaut, Luca Parmitano, took this photo of some sand dunes in 2013.
But why do the dunes in his picture look like craters?
Are these men stood on a flat floor? Or do they have insanely good balancing skills?
