A mom of 8 had an unlikely excuse for why she was out of work...

Job hunting can be hard...

Applying to hundreds of jobs just to be met with rejection emails can be disheartening at the least.

Whether you've not got enough experience...

Or simply aren't the right fit for the job, there are countless reasons why someone's application may not be successful.

During the pandemic especially, unemployment is on the rise more than ever.

With several sectors under major strain.

But one woman says she can't find work for a very different reason.

And it's certainly not what you'd expect.

Meet Marie Buchan.

Marie, a single mom who's from the UK, has 8 kids and is a budding mechanic.

Now, we all know that being a single parent is tough.

Being a mom is basically the hardest job on earth – and the pressure to be a perfect parent can make life even more stressful.

The stress of providing for your children can be huge.

And Marie is currently struggling to get herself back into the workforce.

The former lap-dancer says she has applied for dozens of positions after gaining her mechanics qualifications.

But has so failed to get any consistent work.

Marie has been relying on welfare to get by...

And had previously made headlines for complaining about cuts to her $40,000 a year benefits.

Marie said it was "mentally draining" to be a mom of 8 and work on top of training to become a mechanic.

And that she was forced to stay on welfare as a result.

But now the mom of 8 has decided it is time to get a full-time job.

Since hitting the headlines for her welfare cut, Marie has reportedly been spotted shopping for a brand new £70k ($90,458) Range Rover in a luxury car showroom as well as planning on getting a £4,500 ($5,815)  boob job.

Which of course...

Meant that she gained her fair share of critics, many of whom accused her of taking advantage of the system.

Now, though, it seems Marie is ready to jump back into the world of work.

But, it hasn't been easy.

After coming off welfare, Marie says she wanted to start up her own mechanics business.

But her perspective employers have been less than appealing.

She spoke to the Daily Star about her experience:

"A couple of garages approached me after seeing me on TV but as you talk to them more and more you see what they’re after," she said.

It hasn't been plane sailing...

Marie, who calls herself the "Benefits Queen," said: “I was sick of getting sexist comments from the guys and I thought I could do this myself and turn it into a little business."

She says employers are only after one thing...

"They’re not really after me working there, they’re looking for something more. I think they’re just dirty big perverts."

Marie thinks it's her looks standing in the way of her getting her dream job.

Although, she has previously admitted that she initially only sought employment was to avoid the welfare cap that limits handouts to £26,000 ($33,576) a year.

She continued.

"You’ve got women in the police force, in the Army, we have the skills, it’s just that men see us as sex symbols."

Marie now says she is determined to tackle sexism in the industry.

"I’m trying so hard. If someone would just give me the opportunity, I would prove them wrong. I know exactly what I’m doing."

Marie isn't backing down from her desire to become a certified mechanic.

And is determined to prove people wrong. We wish her the best of luck with her career! For more like this, scroll on to find out why one mom was fired for a TikTok she made about her son...
