Mrs Doubtfire legend, Doreen Montalvo, has tragically passed away aged just 56.

Montalvo was a veteran of the big screen and the stage - at the highest level - and will be tragically missed by those in the industry and her plethora of fans.

Acting legend, Doreen Montalvo, has tragically died.

The veteran of the big screen and the stage passed away aged just 56.

She starred in numerous films.

Such as Jack, Jules, Esther, and Me,as well as The Tale of Jimmy Two Chins.

She also starred in Steven Spielberg's, West Side Story.

As well as the Lin-Manuel Miranda-produced movie In The Heights.

But she was most famous for one role.

Starring in the New York production of the film made famous by Robin Williams, Mrs Doubtfire.

Mrs Doubtfire was one of the biggest films ever made.

And tells the story of a man who suffers a bitter divorce so pretends to be a female housekeeper in order to keep in contact with his children.

Robin Williams starred in the movie.

And it was an immediate hit - bringing comedy and tragedy together in a fantastic family drama.

Montalvo starred in the Broadway production numerous times.

She starred in three previews for the Broadway production, but sadly the show was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her manager Steve Maihack confirmed the news.

Taking to Instagram, he paid a heartbreaking tribute to Doreen, writing:
We are devastated to hear she has left us today. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to her husband Mike Mann and their family during this time.

"Love and light to all her friends, colleagues and fans…my heart aches for us all."

It's been my honor and extreme pleasure to have worked with Doreen, as her manager. From the minute we met it was like we had been friends for years. Kindred spirits, for sure.

He also addressed Doreen directly.

Pouring out his emotions, he wrote:
My favorite memory will be watching you as Gloria Fajardo in the OYF tour at the open-air outside KC Starlight theater….belting out 'Mi Tierra' to an audience of 8000, with the sun literally setting as if God himself was directing the most PERFECT moment for us all. It was thrilling.

"She was also making strides in the tv world- which she was a natural at. Doreen could do anything. She was like a winning lotto ticket."

The post continued:
She was all of ours winning lotto ticket. We will continue to carry her, telling her story and remembering the talent and love she shared with us all. Most importantly the LOVE, as long as there is love.

He concluded his post, writing:

DOREEN, what an absolute blessing to have known you on your incredible human journey. I pray for you and will love and miss you, para siempre. Para Siempre. PARA SIEMPRE.

The Mrs Doubtfire Twitter account also paid tribute to Doreen.

They wrote:
The Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical family mourns the loss of Doreen Montalvo. Doreen’s immense talent was matched by her extraordinary kindness and remarkable generosity.

Their post finished with:

Her light shown brightly onstage and off. She was beloved by the entire company and by every person who was lucky enough to call her a colleague or friend. Our hearts are with her husband Mike and all of her family and friends.

Tributes have been pouring in online.

After the news broke of Doreen's death just a few hours back, tributes have been pouring in on Twitter from her many fans - heartbroken at the news of her passing.

Broadway star and producer, Lee Lin Miranda, wrote:

Doreen Montalvo was the first actress to audition for In The Heights in the basement of the Drama Book Shop in 2002. The first one. She sang La Lupe's Qué Te Pedi and embedded herself in my heart in an instant. Her voice was had that tear in it--that lágrima. Inimitable & hers.

Broadway journalist, Paul Wontorek, wrote:

You know when you spot someone in the ensemble and you say, "OMG, who IS that? Fantastic!" That was Doreen Montalvo in "In the Heights." Just a stunning talent. RIP Doreen.

Doreen suffered a severe stroke a few weeks back.

And tragically, Doreen was unable to fully recover from the huge stroke.

She was just 56 years old.

And people are saying that her career was only just beginning to truly flourish.
