The thirty-three-year-old actress was confirmed as missing last week after being in a boat with her 4-year-old son in Lake Piru, California.
Tributes have been flooding in for Rivera and it’s safe to say that the world is truly heartbroken over this loss.
Rivera was best known for her role in Glee, and she portrayed the role of the sharp-witted cheerleader, Santana Lopez.
And she went on to appear in most episodes across all of the 6 seasons.
In 2011, it was announced that the actress had signed a deal with Colombia Records to produce a solo album, and her debut single, “Sorry” featured the rapper, Big Sean, who she went on to have a brief romance with.
So instead, Rivera resorted back to her skills as an actress and went on to appear in a handful of different movies and TV series, including At The Devil’s Door and Devious Maids.
With her now ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, Rivera had a son, Josey, in 2015, and he had been the apple of her eye ever since.
And she threw herself into motherhood, devoting most of her time to raising her son.
The post shows a tender moment between her and her son, alongside the caption, “Just the two of us.”
While out vacationing with Josey along California’s Lake Piru, Rivera went missing.
The actress had rented a pontoon boat on Wednesday afternoon but 3 hours later, another boater raised the alarm after seeing the vessel drifting and Josey sleeping alone on board.
The child was reportedly unharmed.
And her lifejacket still onboard the boat.
It was later found out that Rivera and her son had been swimming in the lake and authorities strongly suspected a case of drowning.
“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility,” Captain Eric Buschow, of the sheriff’s department, said last week.
“I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”
According to TMZ, Rivera’s son had told the authorities that his mom had “jumped into the water but didn’t come back up.”
And he spoke briefly of how his mom pushed him back onto the boat and never returned – essentially saving his life.
A press conference on Monday confirmed that her body was found floating in the lake following a 6-day search.
And we are devastated to announce it is definitely her.
But now it has been confirmed she has passed away, so many people have been sending in their messages of condolence.
And her tragic death has shaken the entire world.
It’s honestly so difficult to fathom.
And it’s clear that Rivera was very much loved in her industry.
And a song that she sang during her time on Glee has resurfaced and it is breaking hearts all over again.
And in the emotional Glee performance that was dedicated to Finn, she sang:
“If I die young, bury me in satin, lay me down in a bed of roses.”
She went on:
“Lord make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother. She’ll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh and life ain’t always what you think it oughta be, no ain’t even grey, but she buries her baby. The sharp knife of a short life, well, I’ve had just enough time.”
And Rivera herself is seen getting emotional as she draws the beautiful song to a close.
And it’s leaving more and more people feeling heartbroken over Rivera’s death.
And under the current circumstances, they are hitting fans in a completely different way.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family during this unimaginable time.
