The tragic news has just come in that Nelson Mandela’s daughter, Zindzi Mandela, has died at the age of fifty-nine.

Keep scrolling to read more about this woman’s remarkable life…

She was just fifty-nine-years-old.

And as her surname suggests, her father was the late Nelson Mandela who passed away in December 2013.

And he spent the majority of his life fighting for justice and the social democracy of black people in South Africa.

And Nelson Mandela famously spent twenty-seven years in prison after campaigning and protesting for the rights of black people.

Even though he was widely seen as a controversial figure, he gained international fame and admiration which lead to him earning a Nobel Peace Prize.

And the sacrifices that he made for his country will never be forgotten.

And she was just eighteen-months-old when her father was sent to prison.

This was because their mother, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, was also locked up in prison for months at a time.

This is because her mother was banished to the state upon her release from prison – but the family eventually moved back to Soweto which is when Zindzi was able to complete her education.

And her first book, Black as I Am, was published. She also appeared in publications including Somehow We Survive: An Anthology of South African Writing, edited by Sterling Plumpp and Daughters of Africa, edited by Margaret Busby.

And it’s clear that she shared her father’s strong views.

And she has been married twice – having a total of 4 children between both marriages.

Zindzi has worked as South Africa’s ambassador to Denmark.

Today, on the 13th of July 2020, Zindzi Mandela lost her life in Johannesburg at the age of fifty-nine.

And she has been described as a “strong and fearless” woman.

And she will be missed greatly.

And there’s no denying the influence she had on so many black people.

And we can’t imagine the pain they must be feeling right now.

And all that we know right now is that Zindzi died in a hospital in Johannesburg.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family during this difficult time.
