Netflix has taken on quite a few film-to-TV adaptations, and One Day is the most recent one to hit the streaming service.

The series is based on the 2009 David Nicholl’s novel of the same name and tells a stunning love story that spans decades.

Every year, the protagonists Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley meet up on the same day, and the show captures those snapshots of their lives.

The novel was adapted into the 2011 film starring Anne Hatheway and Jim Sturgess, but the new series infuses the timeless story with new blood.

The Netflix series stars Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod.

Many fans already knew what to expect, having seen the film or read the book, but they were still nervous about the outcome of the final episode.

Another viewer commented, “Someone spoil this for me please, b/c if it ends the same way the Anne Hathaway movie ended I’m DEFINITELY not watching it. I don’t need that emotional trauma again.”

“One episode in and loving the Netflix adaptation of One Day. Just not sure I can go through the emotional rollercoaster which is to come!” another added.

Earlier this week, Ambika explained why she repeatedly turned down an audition for the role of Emma.

During press for the show’s release, she revealed that she loves the novel and fell in love with it as a 14-year-old, but her gut reaction was an immediate “no” when asked to audition.

She told Grazia, “I saw the email notification pop up on my phone: ‘Emma, One Day, self-tape’ and I was like ‘Nah I’m not doing that’.”

“I turned the audition down again and again over several months. I love the book so much and I just didn’t see myself playing that part. I thought it was a waste of time.”

  via Getty Images

She explained, “I envisaged the disappointment I would experience if I entertained this idea.”

Despite that, she realized the mistake she had made and decided to audition anyway.

Fans are thrilled that she was the one to secure the role, loving her as Emma.
