Since Aaron Carter’s tragic death, his siblings have come together to raise money for a mental health charity in his memory.
Nick and Angel Carter announced the tribute to the late singer and their little brother on Monday…
Scroll down for the latest.
Aaron Carter first shot to fame in the late ’90s.
The teen pop singer was an instant hit.
Being the younger brother of the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, he had an excellent path to stardom.
Carter began performing at the age of just 7 years old!
And went on to release his debut album 2 years later, at age 9.
But what’s even more impressive is he sold 1 million copies worldwide.
And his success skyrocketed from there.
His second album in 2000, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), sold a whopping 3 million copies here in the US.
This led to him guest-starring in some of Nickelodeon’s hit shows, such as All That.
After his album’s success, he toured with his brother and the Backstreet Boys.
Carter later released 2 more albums, Oh Aaron, which went platinum, and Another Earthquake!, in 2002.
The singer also ventured into the world of acting…
Making an appearance on Lizzie McGuire in 2001.
His achievements at such a young age were astronomical.
But like any child star…
Carter suffered at the hands of fame.
Despite earning far more than any teen would even dream of making…
He found himself in difficult financial situations over the years that followed.
And as a result, Carter filed for bankruptcy in 2013.
But that wasn’t the only struggle he faced.
Carter went to rehab in 2017 after he was arrested for DUI and drug possession.
He even told Us Weekly he “thought [he] would die by 30.”
“Life, it was pretty tough. I dealt with a lot of trauma, a lot of loss, a lot of loneliness…
“My goal is to be the phoenix that rises from the ashes,” he told the publication at the time.
Carter also suffered from drug addiction and mental health issues.
In 2019, he revealed on the talk show The Doctors that he had been diagnosed with both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
“The official diagnosis is that I suffer from multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression,” Carter said, as per TMZ.
Revealing that he was “prescribed to Xanax, Seroquel, Gabapentin, Hydroxyzine, Trazodone, Omeprazen.”
And sadly, his last few years were also laced with difficulties…
Not only was he estranged from his family, but his relationship with his partner, Melanie Martin also broke down.
Carter and Martin had a child together in 2021, but their on-and-off relationship was a struggle for the singer.
And in September this year, he checked into rehab for the fifth and final time.
He’s faced problems with his brother, Nick, too.
Carter decided to publicly end things with his brother after Nick issued a restraining order against him.
Nick released a public statement in which he expressed his feelings toward his brother.
“After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today,” Nick said at the time.
“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family.”
Carter continued to exhibit alarming behavior.
Amidst all of the family drama, he unveiled a huge new tattoo of, what appears to be, the R&B legend, Rihanna.
The distinctive design stretched from the top of Carter’s forehead all the way down the side of his cheek to his jawline. Apparently, Carter was inspired by a shoot that Rihanna did with GQ wherein she posed as the Greek gorgon back in 2013.
On Instagram, he uploaded a photo of the tattoo accompanied by a caption written entirely in capital letters. The caption read: “IM THE BIGGEST THING IN MUSIC RIGHT NOW. I CANT BE DENIED. FACT CHECK ME. #unstoppable #LMG #SilenceBreaker.”
His worrying behavior continued to include many social media tirades.
Including one in which he claimed he had found a home in Canada, and that he was leaving to get away from “foul America.”
Carter also claimed in an Instagram live that he had a secret twelve-year-old son he’s never met.
He claimed the child has been kept from him by the mother, who he named as Hayley Eisenhardt – who didn’t even have a child that age.
Carter started a month-long outpatient program at the Lionrock rehab center in Los Angeles, in an effort to get his son Prince back.
Devastatingly, just months later, news came out that he had died.
Many have paid tribute to the star following the news of his death.
Hilary Duff paid tribute to the singer, writing “For Aaron – I am deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world.
“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… boy did my teenage self-love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy [heart emoji].”
Tributes quickly poured in for the singer-turned-rapper…
“Rest in peace brother. You took me through my childhood. I’m so sorry things got so hard for you and happened this way,” one fan wrote.
“Rest In Peace. You deserve the peace and quiet. The chaos is done friend,” a second added.
And a third commented: “I’m so heartbroken, I have a lifetime of memories following you. I hope you are at peace.”
And perhaps the most heartbreaking tribute of all came from Carter’s big brother, Nick.
“My heart is broken,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.
“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed,” Nick continued.
“Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.
“I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz.
“Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth…. I love you baby brother,” he concluded his post.
Nick also broke down on stage on Sunday during his performance with the Backstreet Boys in London, as per TMZ.
Since his death, Carter’s final social media post has left fans feeling heartbroken…
In the video posted to Instagram of him performing with CheckTheStar, he can be heard rapping the lyrics: “I’ll tell my honey I’ll be gone but it’s not for long.” You can see the heartbreaking final Instagram post here.
Carter’s fiancée, Melanie Martin, has since spoken out about his death.
Martin revealed that she knew the singer was “struggling” and that she “tried everything to help him.”
After his death went public, Martin posted a Tiktok video, which has since been deleted, of herself crying in her car.
She then also took to Instagram where she shared a photo of her and Carter to her Stories, writing: “I can’t breathe.”
The model later addressed his death in a statement, writing: “We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality.”
Adding: “Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”
Speaking to People about the devastating news, she said: “My heart is completely broken over the passing of my fiancé Aaron.
“I knew he was struggling, and I tried everything to help him,”
“He has a very independent and strong personality, and I couldn’t help him in the way I felt he needed it.
“I only wish I had more people to help me with him. I will now be raising our son as a single mother and this is the worst day of my life, but I have to be strong for our son. I’m devastated,” she added.
The pair first got together in 2020, getting engaged the same year.
They welcomed their son last year, but their relationship was reportedly on and off throughout this time.
It has also been confirmed that Carter had made up with his brother Nick before he died.
According to UNILAD, The Backstreet Boys paid their respects to Carter at their show in London.
“Tonight, we’ve got a little bit of heavy hearts,” said vocalist Kevin Richardson.
“Because we lost one of our family members yesterday. We just wanted to find a moment in our show to recognize him. Nick’s little brother, Aaron Carter, passed away yesterday, and he’s a part of our family and we thank you guys for all the love, all your well-wishes, and all your support,” he said.
The 2 siblings, who reportedly weren’t always on the best of terms, “were finally in a good place when [Aaron] died”, his rep said.
The rep told Hollywood Life: “[Aaron] was on the path to making amends with so many people in his life, and he had made amends and made peace with Nick.”
“Aaron was happy about this because he loved his brother.
“He looked up to Nick in so many ways. They were trying to make everything good again,” the rep concluded.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ they received a 911 call at 11 AM Saturday.
His family said: “We are extremely saddened and shocked to confirm the passing of Aaron Carter today [Saturday]. At the moment his cause of death is being investigated.”
Homicide detectives reported that there was no evidence of foul play…
And a representative from Carter’s team said that his cause of death was still being determined.
The devastating details of his death have been revealed…
According to TMZ, before his death cops were called for a welfare check on Friday at 2 AM, but Carter reportedly told them to leave and informed his housekeeper not to bother him.
She did as instructed and only went to check on him on Saturday morning…
After approaching his bedroom door, she heard his dog barking so opened the door to find the singer’s body in the bathtub with the jets still running.
Experts believe he had been deceased for a while at this point.
His housekeeper immediately called the cops to report that she believed he had drowned.
Upon entering the scene, cops found cans of compressed air as well as pills that could have resulted in his tragic death.
The official cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Carter’s close friend opened up about the scene at the house the day he died.
As we know, the singer’s body was discovered last week, and shortly after his family was notified along with Carter’s fiancée, Melanie Martin, and his close friend Gary Madatyan.
Madatyan told Entertainment Tonight what he saw when he went over to his house.
“After they removed the body from the house, they allowed just a few people to get into the house. We [Gary and Melanie Martin] just wanted to go in there and see if any blood or any alcohol or anything was in the house,” he said.
“I went to his bedroom. The bedroom was normal,” he continued. “I went to the bathroom where the bathtub was full of water, like, yellowish color.”
“I personally think he was on medication and had fallen asleep in a bathtub … I think it’s a tragic accident because he loved life. He had so many plans,” he shared. “Even though he had mental issues, addiction, he loved life.”
But fans have speculated that he may have taken his own life despite no suicide note being left at the scene.
Highlighting his post shortly before he died, which read: “LOVE YALL STAY BLESSED STAY SAFE. ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS.”
Some believe that he knew he wasn’t going to make it to Christmas.
However, his family totally disagrees.
According to TMZ, sources close to the singer shared that he couldn’t wait for the Holidays and that he was planning to spend time with his fiancée and son.
They also claim he set up appointments over the coming weeks to see his counselor and social worker.
They believe his death was a tragic accident.
Carter’s fiancé, Melanie Martin, has been moving things out of the late singer’s home.
She wore a tie-dye hoodie while her friend loaded her boxes into the truck.
But according to TMZ, a woman called the L.A. County Sheriff’s office so they could make sure the process went by smoothly.
Martin reportedly called the cops to “keep the peace” while she retrieved her belongings.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get even sadder, it does.
Carter had reportedly listed his home for sale a month before he died.
On October 29, he posted a screenshot of his listed home on Twitter.
“Selling my 2nd home. Real estate has been super good to me. Ready for a new chapter in my 3rd home which I plan on staying to make a beautiful life for my family,” he wrote.
“This year has been super tough but I’ve learned so much. Thanks for the support everyone.”
And now, sources have revealed that the late singer didn’t actually make amends with his brother.
Previously, family sources revealed that Carter was on good terms with his brother Nick in his final days…
According to TMZ, sources said Carter further believed things were okay between him and Nick because past correspondences with his family were usually explosive…
However, it seemed like his siblings were trying to let bygones be bygones.
And although Angel and Nick had put a restraining order against Carter back in 2019, any communication between the trio would have been out of the question legally.
And unfortunately, according to family sources, Carter never actually had a conversation with Nick himself.
Since then, Carter’s memoir has been released…
Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life reportedly includes “disgusting” claims according to the late star’s ex-Hilary Duff.
While his memoir was co-written with author Andy Symonds over 3 years…
It was set for release by Ballast Books on November 15.
However, Duff has slammed some of the claims in the book…
And you will be shocked at what was actually written.
According to the Daily Mail, an excerpt from the book reads: “Hilary and I lost our virginity to each other at a hotel… in LA. I think it was her birthday, maybe her 13th [September 28 2000], but I don’t remember. Her friends walked in, and we just yelled at them to get out.”
While Carter previously said he started dating Duff on his 13th birthday, he also added he moved on and went into a relationship with Lindsay Lohan.
“I was dating her for like a year-and-a-half, then I just got a little bored so I went and I started getting to know Lindsay [Lohan], dating Lindsay,” he said.
But it seems Duff is not having any of it and has called the claims in the memoir “disgusting.”
“To water down Aaron’s life story to what seems to be unverified click-bait for profit is disgusting. In no way do I condone shedding any light on what is so obviously an uninformed, heartless, money grab,” she told DailyMail.com.
But that’s not all…
‘It’s really sad that within a week of Aaron’s death, there’s a publisher that seems to be recklessly pushing a book out to capitalize on this tragedy without taking the appropriate time or care to fact check the validity of his work,” she added.
Following the release of the excerpts from Carter’s memoir, an insider has spoken out…
“Aaron, in the midst of [working on the book], said, ‘I want nothing to do with this’ and stopped, so the fact that the publisher is saying it’s green-lit, it’s not,” his publicist told Page Six.
“That’s against Aaron’s wishes.”
Carter’s manager, Taylor Helgeson, has recalled the last conversation he had with the late singer.
It is truly heartbreaking.
Speaking to The Sun US, Helgeson said Carter was “optimistic” about the future of his music career.
“He was so excited, he was extremely optimistic,” Helgeson said.
“It was a few years since we released Love, and he felt ready to do another [album]. I got these incredible producers from Denmark to fly out to produce his album and it was the first time in a while that I’ve seen him so excited,” he continued.
“He had more [to give], and he didn’t quit,” Helgeson added.
Helgeson said that he had asked the singer how he was doing after Carter dropped him a text to “check in” with him.
“[He replied] ‘I’m just headed back to the house. I was in L.A. All good though. Things are looking up.’ And I said, ‘I know it,'” he said.
The late singer then replied with: “Holy s***! The new album, what the f***? This is definitely a Grammy!”
To which Helgeson responded with: “Yeah, and you deserve it.”
According to reports, the final text message was received at 6:32 PM.
Helgeson said that he doesn’t know what happened after that.
“We don’t know what happened. We know that he called me.
“I was on a plane, so he called my friend, his friend as well, and he asked to come to the house to record some music, to start tracking these vocals, and from what I heard, that was around 9:30 PM.
“But he never made it to the house,” Helgeson concluded.
The last text message between the singer and his manager reportedly read: “Huge! Our best work yet.”
And now, Carter’s siblings, Nick and Angel Carter have announced they’re raising money for a mental health charity in his honor.
The pair revealed on Instagram their partnership with On Our Sleeves: The Movement for Children’s Mental Health in their brother’s name.
“Very grateful for the outpour of love and support for my brother,” Nick wrote on his story.
“In his name, a new donation fund has been started to benefit @onoursleevesoffical, an important children’s mental health organization helping families across America.”
Carter’s twin sister, Angel, also spoke out, asking fans to donate to the cause.
“Mental Health is so unbelievably important. It’s not talked about enough and is so often overlooked,” she wrote. “Mental illness leads to so many different problems within your life and can result in serious issues like addiction.”
She continued, “Aaron was an incredibly kind, gentle, talented, and funny person.
“We hope that you choose to remember the Aaron we all loved deeply and you continue to keep sharing those beautiful memories of him.”
Rest in peace, Aaron Carter.
