As the days trickle by, more and more information is surfacing surrounding those involved in the Capitol riots last Wednesday.
Though one rioter in particular has attracted attention this week, after being identified.
This comes amid overwhelming tensions among the pro-Trump community.
Last week, on January 6th, during which a joint session of Congress convened to formally count the Electoral College votes and certify Joe Biden’s election win, lawmakers were forced to shelter in place and evacuate as pro-Trump rioters broke into the U.S Capitol Building.
Hundreds of rioters forced their way into the prestigious building…
Breaking windows, doors, and furniture along with chants of “stop the steal!”
A group of rioters even broke into Pelosi’s office…
With one posing in her chair with his feet up on the desk.
From this, more violence ensued…
As rioters clashed with the few police officers in presence.
The scenes shocked people all over the globe…
And the world watched on, transfixed, as more and more rioters continued to spill into the Capitol and clash with police.
From the get-go, there were calls for Trump to intervene.
The president was repeatedly urged to appear on national television to order his supporters to stand down.
He instead issued a series of tweets…
Where he reminded the rioters that the police and law enforcement was “on our side,” and to “remain peaceful.”
Hours after his supporters had stormed the Capitol, however, Trump finally released a video telling them:
“Go home, we love you, you’re very special.”
Shortly afterward, his Twitter account was suspended indefinitely, as were his Facebook and Instagram accounts.
A week has passed since the violence ensued, and people all across the world remain in a state of shock from what they witnessed.
But, slowly but surely, several arrests have been taking place.
Though one particular alleged rioter has hit the headlines this week…
After being identified as the Olympic gold medalist, Klete Keller.
Keller, a thirty-eight-year-old swimmer, won 2 gold medals on the U.S. relay team along with Michael Phelps…
And was reported to have been identified by former teammates and coaches via social media images showing him inside the U.S. Capitol, as per The New York Times.
Keller was not seen committing any violent acts in the images in question…
Video footage posted to social media shows a man that appears to be Keller wading through a crowd of rioters who were being pushed out from the Capitol Rotunda by law enforcement, inside the building.
The Times reported that a number of Keller’s former teammates and coaches identified him in a video posted on Twitter by a reporter from Townhall.
Keller was identifiable – according to the report – because he was wearing a U.S. Olympic team jacket and that his protective facemask was not covering his face.
And now, Keller has been charged for the role he played in the riots.
Keller has been charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in the Capitol building, and impeding law enforcement.
Representatives of USA Swimming didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the charges. The U.S. Olympic Committee and USC declined to comment, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Keller has not yet addressed his charges.
This is a breaking story, and updates will be posted accordingly.
