One Life To Live is one of the most successful soap operas of all time.
The beloved series broadcast on the ABC television network for more than 43 years.
The first episode aired in 1968, boasting 20 seasons until the series ended on January 13, 2012.
After that, the soap opera had a short-lived, one-season revival on the internet as a web series via Prospect Park in 2013.
One Life To Live got so much recognition because it was the first daytime drama to primarily feature ethnically and socioeconomically diverse characters and consistently emphasize social issues.
The series was so beloved that it was expanded from 30 minutes to 45 minutes in 1976, and then to an hour two years later in 1978.
The long-running soap opera heavily focuses on the members and relationships of the Lord family.
The series even ended up winning an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 2002.
The show taped its final scenes for ABC on November 18, 2011, and its final episode on the network aired on January 13, 2012, ending with a cliffhanger.
On January 7, 2013, Prospect Park resumed its previous plan to continue One Life to Live as a daily 30-minute web series on Hulu and iTunes via The Online Network.
The relaunched series premiered on April 29, 2013, but it was plagued with several problems behind the scenes.
The most notable issue for the revived series was a litigation between Prospect Park and ABC regarding the misuse of One Life to Live characters on General Hospital.
From the debut episode, the series centered on fictional character Victoria “Viki” Lord, portrayed by six-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Erika Slezak.
Her character weathered love and loss, widowhood, rape, divorce, stroke, and breast cancer, and was plagued by dissociative identity disorder on and off for decades.
Viki also had heart problems and received a transplant from her dying husband Ben Davidson, played by Mark Derwin.
Soap operas are known for their drama-filled storylines, with each character navigating some series problems throughout their time on the show.
Another character who had no shortage of hardships was Antonio Vega.
When Antonio first appears on the series, he is serving a prison sentence for murder–though it is later determined to have been in self-defense.
Upon his release from Statesville Prison, he ended up joining the Llanview Police Department.
Sadly, the actor who played Vega, Kamar de los Reyes, recently passed away.
A spokesperson broke the news to The Hollywood Reporter on December 24, saying the actor passed away the previous night in Los Angeles.
His death comes after a brief battle with cancer, though it’s unclear what sort of cancer he might’ve been battling, or when he was diagnosed.
At the time of his passing, de los Reyes was 56 years old.
While Kamar is best remembered for his role on One Life to Live, video game fans probably recognize him too.
De los Reyes also voiced villain Raul Menendez in the extremely popular Call of Duty series.
He voiced Menendez for a total of 4 Call Of Duty installments, including the famed Black Ops II, where he debuted as the villain for years to come.
In addition to his more well-known roles, he also memorably starred in shows like Sleepy Hollow, All American, The Rookie, Reed Between the Lines, Promised Land, Four Corners, and ER.
He was also in a handful of films, including Nixon, In Search of a Dream, The Cell, Salt, LA Apocalypse, Amelia 2.0, and Hot Guys with Guns.
De los Reyes is survived by his wife, Sherri Saum, and their two young children: 9-year-old twins Michael and John. He also has an older son, Caylen, age 26, from a previous relationship.
