Many recognize Ozzy from The Osbournes…
The hilarious reality show followed Ozzy, whose real name is John, and his wife, Sharon, with their 2 kids, Jack and Kelly.
Their lives were a little crazy…
But that’s what made the world love them.
But it wasn’t The Osbournes that made Ozzy famous…
It’s a sad reality that many Ozzy fans don’t even realize that he is in one of the most famous and influential metal bands of all time...
Black Sabbath.
Hailing from Birmingham in the U.K. Black Sabbath was the first of its kind all the way back in 1968. Ozzy teamed up with bandmates, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward, and, together, they started the era of heavy rock and metal music.
Sabbath wasn’t only famous for Paranoid…
They were, and still are, renowned for their wild lifestyles back in their touring days.
The band, and Ozzy, in particular, were well known for their alcoholism and heavy drug use.
Ozzy has fallen under fire for numerous things, such as biting the head off a live bat on stage in 1982, snorting a line of live ants when on tour with Motley Crue, and taking every illegal drug that has ever existed.
But one of the worst things that he has ever done was attempting to strangle his wife, Sharon, to death in 1984 when heavily under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
However, he eventually decided it was time to get cleaned up.
And his sobriety has allowed him to focus on his music and family life.
Speaking to Rolling Stone back in 2017, he said: “Now I’m coming on 5 years clean and sober, and I’ve realized what a f****** idiot I was. I mean, I’m still nuts, but in control of it a bit more.”
But, he had been secretly struggling with an illness he had been diagnosed with in 2003.
And having “ran out of excuses,” finally revealed what he has been diagnosed with.
The star appeared on Good Morning America.
In the emotional interview, Ozzy along with his wife, Sharon, opened up about the health struggles that have been heavily impacting his life.
It has not been an easy journey for him.
Things went downhill after the star went under the knife and began experiencing nerve pain.
Talking in the interview, he explained why he had decided to come out about his struggle.
“I’m no good with secrets, I cannot walk around with it anymore. Because it’s like I’m running out of excuses.”
Sharon then interjected by revealing her husband’s illness.
“Parkin 2 which is a form of Parkinson’s and it is – there’s so many different types of Parkinson’s – it’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination but it does affect certain nerves in your body.”
Parkinson’s is a brain disorder categorized as a presence of “certain recognizable symptoms” which most commonly include uncontrollable shaking or tremor, lack of coordination, and speaking difficulties.
Stage 2 is considered a moderate form of the illness.
“A year ago next month, I was in a shocking state.” “I’m on a host of medication, mainly for this surgery.
“I’ve got numbness down this arm from the surgery, my legs are going cold. I don’t know if it’s the Parkinson’s or what. That’s the problem.”
But that’s not all…
“We’ve kind of reached a point here, in this country, where we can’t go any further because we’ve got all the answers we can get here,” she said. “So in April we’re going to a professor in Switzerland and he deals with getting your immune system at its peak. We’re going to go where ever we can go to seek answers.”
Ozzy’s days are varied in how well he is doing.
“It’s like you have a good day, a good day and then a really bad day.”
But, the news doesn’t stop him from living his life.
In an interview with Kerrang!, the star said: “Do I ever think about when my time’s gonna come? I think about it; I don’t worry about it.
“I won’t be here in another fifteen years or whatever, not that much longer, but I don’t dwell on it. It’s gonna happen to us all.”
Sadly, that wasn’t all… Ozzy said that he’s in “unbelievable pain 24/7” and claimed that even prescribed painkillers aren’t offering any relief.
And what he said was heartbreaking…
“Am I happy now? No. I haven’t got my health. That thing knocked the s*** out of me, man, but I’m still here.” “In fact, I worried about [death] more when I was younger than I do now. I just try to enjoy things as much as possible, even though that’s so f****** hard sometimes.”
And in April this year, Sharon Osbourne talked about Ozzy’s health on her new talk show, The Talk UK…
Sharon explained that her husband has tested positive for the coronavirus.
And in doing so, she also expressed her concern for him.
People took to Twitter to send their wishes…
“The prince of darkness has fallen ill with Covid. I am sure @OzzyOsbourne
could use a lot of positive vibes!” one person wrote.
Someone then responded with a sweet message: “Take care of yourself Ozzy! You got this… I know you’ve been vaccinated so hopefully that’s going to help some. We all love you! God bless.”
“I spoke to him and he’s OK. I am very worried about Ozzy right now,” she explained as per People. “We’ve gone two years without him catching COVID and it’s just Ozzy’s luck he would get it now.”
“It’ll take me a week to get my old man back on his feet again, and I will be back [on the show] in a week… We’re gonna get him a negative test by next week,” she continued.
Sharon also said that she will “hold him and kiss him with about 3 masks on,” when she sees him again.
“My family is my life,” she said holding back tears.
“I can’t believe my luck that I’m missing the show when I’ve only been there 3 days. it’s terrible. I can’t believe it. 3 days and I’m missing the show,” she said laughing.
Sharon also expressed that she hadn’t had the chance to tell their family that her husband had the virus because he was “diagnosed in the middle of the night,” but said that they will “rally round” and be with him.
Since then, Ozzy has made a full recovery from Coronavirus, but that isn’t the end of his battles.
Ozzy has recently undergone “major surgery” but is apparently “doing well” following the procedure.
And Ozzy spoke out about it…
He told The Observer that he is planning to move back to the UK, as he doesn’t want to die in the U.S.
“I don’t want to die in America. I don’t want to be buried in f****** Forest Lawn,” he revealed.
“I’m English. I want to be back.
“But, saying that, if my wife said we’ve got to go and live in Timbuktu, I’ll go. But, no, it’s just time for me to come home,” Ozzy said.
“Everything’s f****** ridiculous there. I’m fed up with people getting killed every day. God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings.
“And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert … It’s f****** crazy!” he said.
Ozzy also opened up about the challenging physical aspects of the disease.
“You think you’re lifting your feet, but your foot doesn’t move,” the 73-year-old frontman said.
“I feel like I’m walking around in lead boots.”
The disease hasn’t just had an impact on his physical ability to live…
But mentally as well.
Ozzy admitted that he battled depression back in 2020 as a result of his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
“I reached a plateau that was lower than I wanted it to be. Nothing really felt great. Nothing. So I went on these antidepressants, and they work OK,” Ozzy said.
The icon went on to credit his wife, Sharon, and his daughter Kelly for sticking by him and motivating him to perform, despite the mental and physical problems he was going through.
In a new interview with The Independent, Ozzy opened up about his marriage with Sharon.
Ozzy and Sharon first met when Sharon was just eighteen-years-old and her dad was managing Black Sabbath.
They married twelve years later and went on to have 3 children – and their own reality TV show – together.
When asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage Ozzy responded: “Love, I suppose.”
“Without my Sharon, I’d be f***ing gone,” he said.
“I was doing f***ing huge amounts of drugs and booze. I never stopped. People wouldn’t know if I was gonna go through the door, the roof or the window.
“Now I don’t drink or smoke or f***ing do any of that s***. I’m f***ing boring!” Ozzy admitted.
And now, new details have arisen between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne in a recent interview they participated in.
During the interview, Sharon spoke about the time her husband, Ozzy, spiked her stew with ‘black hash.’
During the interview, sixty-nine-year-old Sharon said: “He made me a stew with some s**t in it.”
Ozzy, however, said otherwise, saying, “I never f**king did that!”
Sharon then pressed on Ozzy in the interview, asking him what the ‘s**t was.’
To which Ozzy responded, “A bit of black hash.”
Sharon recalled the moment, saying, “I was eating this stew and it sent me crazy – it made me violent.”
“She throws the phone at me and it goes straight in the face,” Ozzy said.
As well as throwing a phone toward Ozzy’s face…
Sharon admitted that she slammed Randy Rhoades’s guitar on the wall.
“Randy’s guitar was there and I picked it up and slammed it against the wall,” she said.
Back in August Ozzy revealed he was “fed up” with living in America.
So much so, he decided he would be heading back home to England.
There were 2 reasons for his abrupt decision.
One being was gun violence in America.
The second was his wife, Sharon’s controversial exit from The Talk back in March.
According to Page Six, Sharon was ousted from the talk show after she defended Pier’s Morgans harsh criticism of Meghan Markle, which several people labeled as “racially insensitive.”
“When my wife got called a racist on [The Talk], she is absolutely not a racist,” Ozzy told the outlet.
“Her friend is Piers Morgan … She didn’t say, ‘I agree with him.’ She just respected his ability to have freedom of speech. That’s all that she said. And she got a lot of flak from that, so we actually had to have f**king armed guards and all that,” he said.
But that’s not all…
Sharon also sat down with the outlet to discuss the pair’s decision to move, and she revealed that Los Angeles isn’t the “heaven” it used to be when the duo moved there over 20 years ago.
“In the ’70s, if you loved music, this was the place to be. It’s not that hub anymore. It’s not exciting anymore. It hasn’t gone sideways, it’s gone down,” she said.
“It’s not a fun place to live. It’s dangerous here. Every big city’s got crime, but I don’t feel safe here. Neither does Ozzy,” she concluded.
And since then, Ozzy himself has addressed a huge career update.
He’s announced his retirement!
In a statement, he wrote: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine.
“My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.
“I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/ UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required. Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really F***S ME UP, more than you will ever know.
“Never would I have imagined my touring days would have ended this way. My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.
“I want to thank my family…. my band…. my crew…. my longtime friends, Judas Priest, and of course my fans for their endless dedication, loyalty, and support, and for giving me the life that I never dreamed that I would have.
“I love you all…”
How do you feel about his announcement?
