So where exactly did Spiranac’s passion for the unlikely sport come from?

Well, it all started when she was in high school.

As a child, Spiranac was a keen gymnast, but a severe knee injury at the age of twelve soon foiled any plans of her ever competing professionally.

During this time, Spiranac also suffered at the hands of bullies, especially from her fellow gymnasts.

This was a result of a hair condition. She admitted struggling to make friends, meaning she found herself to be alone quite frequently.

After recovering from her injury, Spiranac discovered the world of golf and was instantly hooked.

She even became homeschooled so she could dedicate more of her time to training.

Upon starting college, Spiranac threw herself into golfing competitions, with her taking part in 3 events for the University of Arizona Wildcats during the 2011-2012 season.

The following year, she transferred to San Diego State University, where she successfully competed in several more championships.

During this time, Spiranac’s golf-oriented social media presence had grown to unprecedented levels and ultimately resulted in her being able to compete in the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic.

Sadly, she missed the cut, but the exposure resulted in many sponsors and endorsement deals, officially making her a professional golfer.

Spiranac played as a pro golfer from December 2015 to December 2016.

She won a Cactus Tour event, beating Hannah O’Sullivan in 2016. But this was to be her last, as she hasn’t played in any championships since.

But golf isn’t her only passion.

Spiranac has become somewhat of a social media influencer.

Understandably, her social platforms are dedicated to all things golf…

And she regularly shares her own tips and tricks to playing the sport successfully.

But her career isn’t without controversy…

And this week, she’s found herself being the target of cruel online trolls once again.

Spiranac took to her YouTube channel to address the hurtful messages she has been receiving about her body…

After recently throwing the first pitch at the Brewers v Yankees game.

“Not just body [shamed], but my appearance too, like my face and everything,” Spiranac said in the video titled Body Shaming & Life Online, Do I Deserve It?

She addressed the hatred, admitting she was being “extremely body shamed” online.

“In Milwaukee people were like, ‘she’s gained weight, this is what she looks like with no filters.’ It was insane,” Spiranac said.

“People were like, ‘you don’t look like yourself’ But, here’s the thing. When I shoot, I obviously pick the best pictures. I have great lighting. There’s a lot that goes into getting a nice picture.

“And so when you’re at a stadium that has severe overhead lighting, fluorescent overhead lighting, you’re just not going to look your best.

“And so I have just felt this immense pressure to look perfect, all the time. And that is humanly impossible. It is seriously so difficult to do that. No one can do that. Even the most beautiful women in the world don’t always look a certain way.”

Spiranac admitted she thinks the pressure to look perfect got worse when she was named Maxim’s Sexiest Woman Alive.

“That is quite a title and I’ve felt a lot of pressure to live up to that title. So I even think that I have been more critical of my self appearance and always trying to put out the best possible picture and doing everything I can to always present and look my best,” Spiranac said.

“And that takes a toll on you.”
