After being told she could never walk again following a devastating accident, Brittney Bedwell defied all expectations and walked down the aisle at her wedding.
With her father at her side and the help of a walker, Bedwell, who is from Indiana, made her way down the aisle to her soon-to-be husband Glen as family and friends proudly watched, according to CW affiliate WISH.
However, there was a point in her life where she never thought she could have the spectacular and magical occasion she had envisioned. Bedwell, twenty-six, was part of a horrific quad bike crash 4 years ago which left her paralyzed.
Following the crash, which happened in 2018, Bedwell had to spend several months in hospital to treat her severe injuries. She was told she was paralyzed, would never walk again, and had to undergo multiple surgeries while fighting off a serious infection.
After her now-husband, Glen, proposed in the hospital, she was determined to persevere and walk down the aisle on her big day.
"It was really important to me because I got to watch my sisters walk down the aisle and I knew I wanted to do that, so I had to push myself even harder," said Bedwell.
She told the outlet that there were many moments she wanted to give up, but little sparks of hope helped her continue on her journey.
"A doctor told me that I was never going to walk again, and I didn't want to believe that, and I did for a while and I had depression and anxiety but once I got over that, I just woke up one day and I just like started feeling some stuff in my legs and I knew that it wasn't over."
She continued to surprise doctors with her ongoing success as she overcame challenge after challenge. However, it was when she fell pregnant that she really impressed her family, friends, and doctors alike, as she had been told she could not bear children following the accident.
She continued with her physical therapy, persevering through each small milestone, however, she stated that much of her progress was mental rather than physical.
"I have my kids, I have my husband and I have my family and friends and they're all in my corner so I'm pushing for them because they're pushing for me," she said. "I already have therapy lined up for next week, so I'm getting out of this chair."
She posted a video of the emotional moment on Facebook her sister expressed the joy she felt at the special occasion. "She leaves me speechless. So, I'll just say - Brittney Bedwell inspires me to never give up. To believe in miracles. To stay strong. To defy the odds. To love deeply and freely. Happy wedding day, baby sister. You are STUNNING and STRONG!"
Congratulations, Brittney and Glen!
