After a 6-year-old boy ran a marathon, his parents were visited by Child Protective Services.
When Ben and Kami Crawford announced that their son had completed a marathon, more specifically the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio, they caught the attention of Child Protective Services…
The Marathon was 26.2 miles long, which, yes, when you hear that a 6-year-old completed it, your jaw does drop to the floor, right? For most people, this seemed like a seriously impressive accomplishment, but for others, it was physically too far.
According to VT, some angry social media users went as far as to report the case to Child Protective Services, which is why they paid a visit to the family.
This understandably took the Crawfords by surprise, and as a result, they took to Instagram to share their opinion on the matter.
“Yesterday Child Protective Services (CPS) arrived at our home unannounced and interviewed our children, parents & grandmother,” they began.
“This is a scary process because usually children are interrogated away from parents, against their will, and their answers determine the agency’s legal right to take away the kids.
“CPS requires SPECIFIC actions be reported like times, locations and specific abuses.
“Since these do not exist people had to make them up.
Someone reported that we dragged Rainier after mile 13 and across the finish line, pulling him against his will.
“All 8 family members and eyewitnesses (including police officers), and our hours of footage reveal a different story – That Rainier is a young human who was very determined to finish and was never dragged ONCE on the entire 26.2 mile course,” they continued.
The statement continued calling out the morals of those who called CPS in regards to their child running a marathon.
“Calling a government agency to have children taken away from someone because you don’t like them or something doesn’t ‘feel right’ or because you can not conceive of a 6-year-old that enjoys running, is morally reprehensible and a gross misuse of our governmental systems put in place to protect our children,” they wrote.
The couple then stated that there are only “3 social service agents” and the two who interviewed their son had a backlog of sixty cases of “legitimate abuse.”
