Over recent months, the world has been facing a very turbulent time.

A pandemic has taken over.

With almost everywhere shutting down.

From shops to restaurants to schools.

Though in the past few weeks, little bits of normality have been appearing again.

With things beginning to reopen.

But whilst things are getting back to normal, we must still take precautions.

In order to minimize risk.

In fact, some precautions are becoming mandatory in some places.

Including here in the US.

In some states, it has become mandatory to wear a face mask on certain occasions.

For example in some retail stores like Costco customers are required to wear one.

Some people are choosing to wear a face-covering regardless.

To provide them with peace of mind.

But there are issues with face masks that many people have discovered.

Not only are they in short supply, after most countries in the world are requiring PPE.

Meaning that many people are having to make their own.

Both for themselves and for essential workers, as they are not being provided with enough.

But the other issue is that many people have discovered how uncomfortable face masks can be.

Particularly when they are worn for a long period of time.

They can also make it hard to breathe whilst wearing.

You may think the uncomfortable nature is a small price to pay for the safety they could provide.

And whilst that might be true.

That is not the case for babies.

In fact, recently parents putting face coverings on their babies have been slammed.

As face masks could be extremely dangerous for babies, even putting them at risk of suffocation.

A mother from California has sent a warning to parents putting face masks on their babies.

Vanessa Madrid took to Facebook to explain the risks of them.

In her post, she explained that babies' airways are smaller meaning that breathing through a mask makes it harder for them.

And as they are small, if they are having difficulty breathing they can't simply take off the mask themselves.

She also explained that it could actually increase the spread of germs.

It is likely that they will not like wearing the mask, meaning they will try to touch it, which could simply spread germs from the babies' hands to face.

"Using a mask on an infant may increase the risk of suffocation. Masks are harder to breathe through. A snug fit will give them less access to air, and a loose fit will not provide much protection."

She also wrote "Older infants or young toddlers are not likely to keep the mask on and will likely try to remove it, as well as touch their face more, which passes germs from hands to face. There are no N95 masks approved for children."

Her post comes after some images of face masks attached to dummies surfaced.

The post quickly went viral with almost 80,000 shares.

Some people commenting that they thought that this was common sense as one user wrote "It is common sense and all warnings I have seen have mentioned NOT to mask babies and children under 2 years old!"

Though not everyone was impressed with the advice as they wrote "Another mum spouting 'science'."

The risk of wearing one seems to out-weigh anything else.

For any parent, all they want is for their child to be safe. For more discussions on wearing face masks, keep scrolling...
