Fans were left furious after the Paul-Mayweather fight last night, with many claiming that the event was “fixed.”
And it’s all because of one specific video…
Now, this was one of the most highly-anticipated fights of 2021.
When it was confirmed that YouTuber and social media personality, Logan Paul, would be taking on the former world champion that is Floyd Mayweather, we couldn’t help but get excited over the prospect that the ever-so-arrogant Paul would have his a** handed to him by the boxing legend.
And the pre-match drama did not disappoint.
Just a few weeks before the publicized fight, Logan Paul’s brother, Jake, was videoed antagonizing Mayweather when they came face-to-face at Hard Rock Stadium.
Let’s just say it didn’t end well for Jake.
In the viral clip, the social media star could be seen getting into Mayweather’s space, talking about how he wanted to fight the man himself, but when he realized that Mayweather was less than fazed, he cranked his antics up a notch.
He then snatched Mayweather’s hat from his head saying “Gotcha hat!” and understandably, received a nasty blow to the face.
Security immediately broke them apart as Jake’s brother also tried to get in on the action.
But the damage had been done.
Jake received a nasty black eye and a busted tooth from Mayweather’s shots. The boxing legend’s fury took over as he shouted: “I’ll kill you motherf*****! Are you crazy? I’ll f*** you up, motherf*****. I don’t play motherf***ing games. I’ll f*** you up,” while aiming for the YouTuber.
He later added that he would not tolerate “disrespect.”
“It’s one thing to sell a fight, and people can say what they want, but one thing no one is going to do, is disrespect me,” he said.
After all that backstage drama, it seems as though the excitement surrounding the fight only increased.
And last night, both opponents entered the ring, ready to live up to all the hype, but unfortunately, things ended in what has been described as a “predictable manner.”
The match continued for the full 8 rounds, but let’s be honest, Mayweather played it all pretty safe because he could have ended the entire thing in less than 2.
Paul spent most of his time trying to land some heavy blows, but Mayweather easily dodged them, landing a few punching sequences of his own.
But with the amount of publicity and money being pumped into the exhibition, no one expected anything less than a “play-fight.”
The event ended in jeers, as many fans believed that the fight was just too mediocre, if that.
Some even claimed that the whole thing was “rigged.”
And it was all because of one specific video.
The clip showed the legendary boxer appearing to hold up his opponent, rather than letting him slump to the canvas as one would normally do.
They claimed the forty-four-year-old deliberately stopped Paul from collapsing in order to extend the fight – despite dominating the entire match. Paul showed he was no threat to the undefeated former world champ.
This move killed the credibility of the fight as fans were expecting something slightly more authentic – well as authentic as an exhibition fight can be.
Afterward, Mayweather said this, much to the fans’ disappointment:
“I had fun, I’m not twenty-one anymore. He’s a great, young fighter better than I thought he was. He’s a tough raw competitor, I was surprised by him tonight.”
Then he threw this one-liner in: “I want to thank all the fans who came out, I want to thank the fans who bought pay per view.”
Well, for $49.99, I think fans deserve more than a measly after-thought, maybe a refund.
Mayweather was then asked whether there would be another fight for him.
“We don’t know what the future holds, I have to talk to my team,” he said. “I’m not twenty-five anymore but I had fun.”
On the other hand, Jake Paul arrogantly claimed that his brother beat the boxing legend…
Just stop it. Stop it.
