An inquest has heard that Peaky Blinders actor, Tobias Kirkup, died just hours after he was discharged from hospital.

The forty-eight-year-old, from the U.K, died at home on his own on August 29th, 2020.

The inquest, at Bradford Coroner's Court, heard that he attended Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on the afternoon of August 29th last year, Yorkshire Live reports.

Kirkup went to the hospital with chest pains but, after being seen to by medics and diagnosed with gastritis, he was discharged the same day. Additional to his chest pain, Kirkup could also feel tingling in his arms.

Coroner's officer, Catherine Toner told assistant coroner, Katy Dickinson, that he had been dealing with drug and alcohol issues.

Upon returning to his home, Kirkup's condition significantly deteriorated as he began vomiting before suffering a cardiac arrest.

A post mortem found his death to be the result of natural causes, however, his family was concerned about the treatment that he had received that same day.

Consequently, an inquest into Kirkup's death was ordered.

Responding to the findings of the inquest, one Facebook user wrote: "So he entered the hospital, complaining of 2 symptoms that perfectly correlate with an onset of a heart attack & they sent him home with a gastritis diagnosis? I am intrigued by what tests they did on him, to deduce this and remove the possibility of a heart attack occurring, which they should have assumed was a possibility, based on symptoms. Rest peacefully."

"Was the said doctor that treated him a medical doctor? Those are classic signs for a heart attack. Especially with his given history," another person asked.

"Just a tragedy to have taken place, sending condolences to u all," said another.

In his younger years, Kirkup studied drama at the University of Huddersfield. Following that he began working as a writer, TV presenter, and actor for 5 years before his death.

Most notably, Kirkup played the part of a police officer in Peaky Blinders in 2016. He also acted in the British soap opera, Emmerdale.

The hearing has been adjourned until September 30th. Rest in Peace, Tobias.
