Netflix’s new show Wednesday, a spinoff from the Addams Family, has been blasted online by social media users branding the series “racist.”

As soon as you’ve finished one box set, it’s on to the next…

And there’s nothing better than getting cozy in your own bed and flicking through the best of what Netflix has to offer, is there?
After a long day’s work, getting back home and sticking your favorite show on is what we all dream about…

It is pretty much all we’ll be doing over winter, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Fans have shared their thoughts on the new show online…

One fan wrote: “me patiently waiting for Netflix to announce Wednesday season 2.”
Another added: “I think my favorite aspect of the show is the revelation that Gomez taught his children to defend themselves to prepare them for world that would never accept them.”

“THING was the star in the whole series OMG,” a third wrote.
The new series features Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams…

As well as Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones as her parents, Gomez and Morticia
Addams.
It is described as a “twisted new series from the mind of Tim Burton.”

It follows Wednesday who is recently expelled from high school after attempting to murder the boys’ water polo team for bullying her brother Pugsley.
Her parents decide to send her to the High School they attended as teens, much to the reluctance of Wednesday.

In the series, we see her arrive at Nevermore Academy and try to settle into the school.
Although there is a lot more going on behind the scenes…

And she is forced to take on the role of detective to attempt to figure out the mysterious goings on.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads:

“The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday
Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.
“Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town…

“And solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Some made the point that the black characters we see in the show are bullies…

Such as the actress Joy Sunday, who plays the mean girl/siren Bianca Barclay.
Then there’s Iman Marson, who played the bully son of a corrupt mayor and owner of the Pilgrim World amusement park.

People have been sharing their thoughts online…
One person wrote: “Me trying to badly push past the racist and anti-Black undertones in the Wednesday Addams Netflix show.

“Like whoever thought making the Black man as the owner of a pilgrim amusement park is literally going to HELL.”
A second said: “I love Jenna Ortega and that she’s playing Wednesday but one thing I hate about this show is that why did they make all the Black people in this show terrible people?

“Like how did Netflix see nothing wrong in this?”
Another added: “The Black mayor being the owner of Pilgrim World was wild.”

A fourth said Tim Burton had “made Black characters bullies.”
Despite the backlash, Burton’s rep told The New York Post: “I’m not forwarding a comment request this silly to Tim.”

Burton hasn’t addressed the comments himself.
