People Are Signing a Petition to Make Danny Devito the Next ‘Wolverine’

The X-Men movies have been a huge hit since the very beginning. Inspired by the epic comic book series, the film franchise is only getting bigger and better. The epic plot, the powerful characters with unique superpowers, oh and Hugh Jackman. With the iconic Wolverine leading almost every movie and comic book, his superpower and overall character development have people rooting for him until the very end.

With Hugh Jackman playing the original Wolverine, there was no way it could go wrong. Everyone loves his scary demeanor, his amazing facial hair, and his super abs. Casting him was absolutely foolproof. But eventually, all good things must come to an end so it’s the internet’s job to stir the pot and come up with new, sometimes slightly ridiculous, movie suggestions.

Recently, a petition has been floating around the internet to sign actor Danny DeVito as the new Wolverine. This is not a drill, and if you want to see blades coming from DeVito’s hands, you should read on.

Wolverine was a big yes.

If you haven’t seen it, I promise there will be no spoilers ahead. But all you need to know is that it’s an amazing series of movies that just get better and better.

You did not want to mess with this guy.

It wasn’t even the knives coming out of his knuckles that made you afraid. One death stare from this dude and you’d for sure be running the other way.

advertisement

His character had some anger issues.

Wolverine had some rage directed toward the people that did him wrong, and he was constantly seeking justice, sprinkled with a heavy dose of revenge.

advertisement

He did have a soft side.

Every superhero has his weakness, and Wolverine was no exception.

advertisement

Hugh Jackman has been faithful to the movies.

When Hugh said yes, he was agreeing to almost 20 years of dedication to all 8 movies, with the first X-Men beginning in 2000.

advertisement

We learned about his origins.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine, released in 2009, was the film that focused entirely on the history and background of Wolverine, and you better believe Hugh absolutely slayed this film.

advertisement

There was just so much to love.

We are forever indebted to Hugh Jackman for giving us his all in this role of a lifetime.

advertisement

Don’t forget about Logan.

Logan was the last film Hugh did with the X-Men storyline. Released in 2017, this film was the emotional goodbye to our favorite, tough guy superhero.

advertisement

But it was time to say goodbye.

With the Wolverine story coming to an end, it was time to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the new. Rumors have been spreading that Disney is looking to cast a different Wolverine as they inherited the X-Men franchise.

advertisement

The internet had a great idea.

Even though no one asked, the internet went above and beyond in suggesting a new actor for the iconic role.

advertisement

It’s none other than Danny DeVito.

Yes, we’re serious.

advertisement

He’s no stranger to the big screen.

You might recognize him from some of his major films like Matilda, Batman Returns, or L.A. Confidential.

advertisement

He also loves animated movies.

Besides those major movies, you definitely might recognize his voice as Phil in Hercules or in the iconic Lorax movie.

advertisement

But he loves where it’s sunny.

Most people today know him from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one of the funniest television shows ever made (seriously, you need to see it if you haven’t).

advertisement

But now we want to see him with claws.

A petition began on Change.org titled “Have Danny DeVito play the rebooted Wolverine in the MCU” and boy did it spread fast.

advertisement

The clear choice.

“The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman,” the petition proclaimed. “We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito.”

advertisement

Thousands jumped on board.

In a little over 24 hours, the petition had over 27,000 signatures, close to their goal of 35,000.

advertisement

It’s so ridiculous, it just might work.

News spread fast on Twitter and in the Comic Book world, and a lot of people had something to say about it.

advertisement

We’re already getting in over our heads.

Fan art started immediately, and it’s weird and hilarious.

advertisement

I can kind of see it.

Of course, he’ll be a little shorter, but who cares about height? All Danny needs is some claws and he’ll be good to go.

advertisement

Take our money!

This would be a one of a kind movie that would definitely draw fans in for its unusual casting.

advertisement

He’s absolutely qualified.

He’s got the skill and the unique repertoire under his belt. It might be a risk worth taking.

advertisement

Some people were not too thrilled about this idea.

Quite a few people voiced their opinion opposing the idea, thinking this would be a ridiculous move for the superheroes.

advertisement

His hairy disposition does help.

But it’s not enough to convince some fans that he’d make a good Wolverine.

advertisement

No need to be rude!

Even though some people were not on board for this, there’s no need to be rude to DeVito. He is an icon that deserves some respect.

advertisement

DeVito, don’t take it personally.

We all love Danny, but some just aren’t ready to see him play such a bold role.

advertisement

Feel convinced yet?

The fan art was quite convincing, even for the strongest of doubters.

advertisement

There are some similarities.

It feels a little less ridiculous with these photos side by side. It might make you a believer.

advertisement

Someone even made a trailer.

The dedication of some people truly amazes me.

advertisement

Is this actually going to happen?

There’s no doubt that with the pace that this petition is moving that it will reach its goal, but should we be getting our hopes up?

advertisement

It’s hard to know for sure.

Disney said in a statement that they were looking for someone younger to play the new Wolverine and with DeVito being 74 years old, that might disqualify him.

advertisement

DeVito is still with it!

He’s still young at heart and has a lot of life left in him!

advertisement

It might seem hopeless.

It’s a big dream and a big goal, and with all the odds stacked against this not-so-tall guy, we don’t want to give up entirely.

advertisement

We’re doing all that we can.

The signatures keep coming in on the petition, so it’s not game over just yet.

advertisement

You’ve got to have high hopes.

Sign the petition, or don’t. Either way, we’ve got to keep our dreams high and our hopes higher. Share the possibility of this with your fellow movie-lovers to see if they are pro-DeVito or anti-DeVito!
