A mom has sparked opinions after sharing a video of herself giving birth to a baby in the ocean.
Josy Peukert shared a video online of her experience of giving birth in the ocean which has since gone viral.
According to Tyla, when Peukert was about to give birth she and her partner, Benni Cornelius, drove to the beach in Nicaragua to deliver their son, Bodhi, in the ocean.
Peukert gave birth to her son while knelt down in the Pacific Ocean in the sand.
Although she had no medical help, the couple did prepare and take a birth kit to the beach with them which consisted of towels, a bowl with a sieve to catch the placenta and paper towels, the outlet reports.
According to the outlet, Peukert explained that she decided on a sea birth as she “got this idea in my head” and “because the conditions were right on the day that’s what I did.”
Following her son’s birth, Peukert explained that he was “wrapped up in towels” and she “went back into the ocean to freshen up.”
“Then I got dressed and we packed everything up and drove home where the three of us got straight into bed.”
After sharing the video online, Peukert was criticized by some people who were worried the birth was not safe.
However, Peukert responded to criticisms and questions explaining: “Bodhi was born in the midday sun when it was about 35 degrees, we weren’t worried at all that he’d be cold and I had no concerns about waterborne infections. He is perfectly healthy. I did all the research I needed to to make sure it was safe.”
“My first birth was traumatic in a clinic and my second birth was a home birth but by the third even a midwife in my home was too much,” she continued to say, the outlet reports. “This time I had no doctors appointments or scans or outside influence.”
Adding that they “didn’t have a due date” and instead “just trusted that our baby would make its way,” Peukert added: “I had no fears or worries to welcome a new little soul into our lives, just me, my partner and the waves. It was beautiful.”
Congratulations!
