The show has just aired its long-awaited second season and once again left us on the edge of our seats.

But its latest addition has been causing quite a stir.

And not in a good way.

The long-awaited comedy series Space Force just dropped on the platform...

The new Steve Carrell headed show chronicles a fictionalized imagining of the controversial, confusing new military branch Donald Trump announced in 2018... you guessed it the “Space Force."

Yeah, remember that?

Back in June 2018, Trump called for the Pentagon to create a “space force," the first new military branch in seventy years.

Its purpose was unclear.

And the project was questioned and ridiculed by a nation currently facing a number of other pressing issues.

So, as you can expect, Space Force was touted to be rather entertaining viewing.

And having it lead by Steve Carrell made its release all that more appealing.

You'll of course know Carell from The Office...

Michael Scott was an inappropriate and incompetent boss, but somehow Carell made him totally lovable.

But Space Force saw the actor dip his toes back into small screen acting...

And it's safe to say, it hasn't gone down too well with viewers.

The show's synopsis reads as follows:

via: imdb

"A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tipped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. "Sceptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and 'Spacemen' are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance."

But it's been far from a successful launch, shall we say...

And was met with an underwhelmingly average score of 6.9 on IMDb accumulated by more than thirteen-thousand viewers.

But that isn't even the half of it.

After watching, critics well and truly ripped into the show.

One critic called it "ill-conceived" and "ill-timed."

via: imdb

"So strange and ill-conceived and ill-timed that not even Carell's avuncular bonhomie can save it. For all its cinematic trappings, Space Force is a series with a single joke running through it, and that joke is American idiocy," wrote The Atlantic's Sophie Gibert.  Yikes.

And there's more...

Many critics felt let down by the talented ensemble cast. "Space Force is not exactly embarrassing - everyone involved is too talented - but it is shockingly unfunny for a show made by people who are so talented," wrote Slate's Willa Paskin.

And the general public didn't have great things to say either.

With many branding it an all-out disappointment.

Reactions have been strong, to say the least.

Considering how great the casting was, the reviews are damming.

And of course, not everyone hated it...

Like with any show, there were varying opinions, with some finding it hilarious. "For anyone who hasn't watched #SpaceForce watch it. F***ing hilarious," wrote one viewer.

Now we've told you how bad the show is supposed to be, we assume you've got some kind of gross fascination to see for yourself...

So, you can watch the trailer for yourself here and head on over to Netflix to watch the first season. And if you're looking for something else to get your claws into, scroll on for everything coming to Netflix this month...
