He instead issued a series of tweets...
Where he reminded the rioters that the police and law enforcement was "on our side," and to "remain peaceful."
Hours after his supporters had stormed the Capitol, however, Trump finally released a video telling them, "Go home, we love you, you're very special."
Shortly afterward, all of his social media accounts were suspended indefinitely.
Nearly a week on from the violence, people from all across the world remain in a state of shock from what they witnessed...
And the thing that has perhaps saddened people the most was the amount of security and law enforcement working at the Capitol that day who were ruthlessly targeted by the rioters.
So many police officers and security guards had their lives put at risk.

They ultimately saved so many lives on that day with their brave and heroic actions.
And one particular cop has been praised heavily for his actions during such a dangerous moment.
USPC Officer, Eugene Goodman, was the person who faced the angry mob completely alone when they first broke into the building.
Footage began circulating on Twitter that showed how Officer Goodman dealt with the terrifying situation.
Hopelessly outnumbered, he can be seen slowly retreating while stooping to pick up his only armament - a baton - as he carefully backs away.
He then sprints up the stairs, but he stops and turns to face the pursuing invaders at each landing, ensuring they don't break into a stampede behind him - buying valuable seconds for those in the Capitol he is protecting, all while radioing for back-up that seems an age in coming.
Goodman's quick thinking is evident when he reaches the second-floor landing as he throws a glance at the Senate Chamber door, which he realizes is unguarded...
Instead of backing past it and putting the rioters on a possible collision course with members of Congress, he gives the lead protester a small shove to keep his concentration on him, thus drawing the crowd up another set of stairs, where he is finally met with some reinforcements.
If it wasn't for Officer Goodman's brave and heroic actions, so many more people would have been hurt on that day...
And of course, he has been hailed as a hero by thousands of people online.
Following all of the praise, a petition was soon created for Officer Goodman.
The petition is asking for Officer Goodman to be granted the Medal of Honor, and it is fast gaining traction.
"Officer Eugene Goodman recognized a critical moment where the lives of others were at stake. He courageously risked himself to divert rioters and exemplifies the courage and bravery that is the hallmark of Capital law enforcement. In a very difficult time, his character shone through," the petition reads.
"He is an American hero."
The petition, which is targeted at Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris, is currently at a staggering 10,482 signatures at the time of writing - and it is increasing by the minute!
Congratulations, Officer Goodman! You can watch the shocking footage of his heroic actions here:
