The Los Angeles Police Department has provided new details regarding the disappearance of Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old woman from Hawaii.

Hannah arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from Maui on November 8th but did not board her connecting flight to New York.
She was reported missing shortly after.
On November 24th, her father, Ryan Kobayashi, was found dead at the bottom of a car park at LAX.

However, a significant update came when investigators reviewed surveillance footage showing Hannah crossing the US/Mexico border on November 12th.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said during a news conference that video surveillance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection showed Hannah crossing the border on foot.
She was alone with her luggage and appeared unharmed.
“Our priority is ensuring Ms. Kobayashi’s safety and well-being,” McDonnell stated.
He urged Hannah to contact her family, law enforcement, or the US Embassy to let them know she is safe.
“She has the right to privacy, and we respect her choices,” McDonnell added.
“But we also understand the concern her loved ones feel.”

She checked her bag through to New York but later requested it be sent back to her at LAX.
Surveillance footage showed her retrieving her bag from the baggage carousel on November 11th.

At Union Station, she used her passport to buy a bus ticket to a destination near the Mexico border.
On the morning of November 12th, she took a bus from Union Station to San Ysidro, California.
Shortly after arriving in San Ysidro, she crossed the border into Mexico.
