Pornhub has revealed which video game characters were searched the most on their site this year.
Every December, end-of-year lists completely dominate the internet.
While the most popular year-end list is Spotify Wrapped, other sites also give their users some info about what their peers are enjoying the most throughout the year.
Because it’s such a taboo topic, one list that always gets a lot of eyeballs is anything having to do with porn consumption.
To make the topic even more unconventional, Pornhub has released data about which video game characters users have been searching for throughout 2023.
This year marks Pornhub’s 10th annual Year in Review, with each installment bringing new surprises in users’ trends and searches.
Among the categories that Pornhub breaks down each year is ‘Video Games & Characters.’
It’s no secret just how big gaming has become over the past couple years, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a lot of folks combine that pastime with the porn they consume.
Now, PornHub is telling us which games and characters are the most popular among their users.
In 10th place was Mortal Kombat, a media franchise centered on a series of fighting video games originally developed by Midway Games in 1992.
The original Mortal Kombat arcade game spawned a franchise consisting of action-adventure games, a comic book series, a card game, films, an animated TV series, and a live-action tour.
The next in line, at number 9, is League of Legends.
Inspired by Defense of the Ancients, a custom map for Warcraft III, Riot Games’ founders sought to develop a stand-alone game in the same genre, which is how League of Legends was born.
Valorant, a free-to-play first-person tactical hero shooter game is next on the list.
At number 7 is Resident Evil, a Japanese horror game series and media franchise created by Capcom.
Genshin Impact comes next on the list, a game that features an anime-style open-world environment and an action-based battle system using elemental magic and character-switching.
In 5th place is Atomic Heart, a game set in an alternate history version of the Soviet Union, during the 1950s.
Next on the list is one of the most well-known games of all time: Pokemon.
The beloved franchise takes place in a shared universe in which humans co-exist with creatures known as Pokémon, a large variety of species endowed with special powers.
Rounding out the top 3 most-searched games on PornHub is Minecraft.
It should come as no surprise that it’s so high on this list as Minecraft has become the best-selling video game in history, with over 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of 2023.
In 2nd place is Overwatch, which has remained in the same place on PornHub’s list since 2021.
Described as a “hero shooter” game, Overwatch assigns players into two teams of six, with each player selecting from a large roster of characters, known as “heroes”, with unique abilities.
And at number 1, which we all saw coming: Fortnite.
Topping the list in 2023 makes this the third year in a row that Fortnite has come in first place.
Fortnite is an online video game and game platform developed by Epic Games and released in 2017, available in six distinct game mode versions.
Fortnite Battle Royale in particular became an overwhelming success and cultural phenomenon, drawing more than 125 million players in less than a year.
While not popular enough to make it into the top 10, a number of other video games also saw more success this year as new titles were released or adapted for film and TV.
As Tears of the Kingdom made its way to stores, The Legend of Zelda shot up 26 spots.
Super Mario also became significantly more popular, moving up 19 spots following the release of The Super Mario Bros. movie.
