A royal expert has opened up about why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle declined their son’s royal title.
Clearly, the couple didn’t want their son to suffer…

Now, the world’s obsession with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle began in 2018 when the couple tied the knot in a royal ceremony…
And although the prince and the former Suits actress radiated with happiness and joy, it didn’t take long for things to take an ugly turn.
Any move she made, Meghan was relentlessly attacked by the British press…
Which eventually resulted in the couple announcing they would be stepping down from their senior roles in the royal family due to this unbearable harassment.
They simply wanted a quieter and safer life for their 2-year-old son, Archie…
And it didn’t take long for them to fully relocate to Los Angeles for a fresh start.
Quite predictably, the news of their departure didn’t go down well with royalists all around the world…
And alongside rumors of bitter feuds between Harry, Prince Charles, and Prince William, the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview poured even more fuel on the fire.
Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview with the famous TV host aired on March 7th…
And an unbelievable amount of dirt was dished out on the royal family and their treatment of the couple over the last few years.
Meghan made some shocking accusations of racism against the monarchy…
Including concerns that were expressed by an unnamed senior member of the family over Archie’s skin color – something that Meghan insisted contributed to her son not being given a royal title.
She also tearfully described the lack of support she received when she was feeling suicidal during her pregnancy due to the pressure and isolation that comes with being a member of the royal family.
“Look, I was really ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he has suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say it, then I would do it… I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
Harry then spoke of how he’s been “financially cut off” by his father…
And that he’s now pretty much an outcast in his family.
Harry returned to the U.K shortly after the interview to attend the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip…
And it was reported that there was a “great deal of frostiness” between Harry, his father, and other senior royals.
So, as you can see, it’s been a very tense few months for Harry and Meghan…
But this hasn’t stopped Harry from speaking out yet again about the hardships he and Meghan faced from being a part of the royal family.
Harry appeared as a guest on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast early on in May…
And he made many personal revelations during the interview.
In perhaps the most talked-about moment of the podcast, Harry said he was caught in a cycle of “pain and suffering” in the British royal family and hinted heavily that he is critical of the way his father, Prince Charles, raised him.
“When it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so that I don’t pass it on.”
He added that “a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway:
“So we as parents should be doing the most we can to try and say ‘you know what, that happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.'”
It’s clear that Harry is desperate to not pass on this “genetic pain” to his own children…
Especially as his and Meghan’s little family is rapidly expanding!
Back in February of last year, Harry and Meghan announced they were expecting their second child…
And Meghan excitedly revealed they were expecting a little girl to Oprah in their exclusive interview.
The happy news came just months after Meghan suffered a miscarriage, however…
Which she opened up about in an opinion piece for the New York Times that ran in November.
“Losing a child means carrying almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few. In the pain of our loss, my husband and I discovered that in a room of 100 women, ten to twenty of them will have suffered from a miscarriage. Yet despite the staggering commonality of this pain, the conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning,” she wrote in her emotional article.
Quite understandably, the couple remained very quiet during their second pregnancy…
Because after recovering from the shock and grief of a miscarriage, privacy and calm are what are needed the most.
Well, the moment we’ve all been waiting for finally arrived…
As it was announced on June 6th that Meghan gave birth to a healthy baby girl 2 days earlier.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the news.
Upon her arrival, an official announcement was released via the Archwell foundation website.
“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” it read. “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Another statement released by their press secretary revealed further details about the happy occasion, revealing that “both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”
And as for the name? Lillibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
The couple chose the name Lilibet in honor of the affectionate family nickname of her great-grandmother, The Queen, and of course, her middle name, Diana, was given in honor of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997.
However, reports have stated that a source from inside the Palace said the pair did not ask permission from the Queen to use her special nickname, but those claims have been shut down.
A spokesperson for the former senior royal couple has released a statement on the matter, stating the following:
“The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called. During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor.
“Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
But now, the conversation has shifted from Lili’s name to her birth certificate.
Despite stepping down from their senior royal duties, the couple have still been using their royal titles until now.
In documents obtained by TMZ, the Duchess of Sussex decided to drop her title and just go with “Rachel Meghan Markle,” under the “Name of Mother” section.
It’s no secret that Meghan’s real name is actually “Rachel” but the actress decided to drop her first name and stick with her middle sometime in high school, as her yearbook is listed as just “Meghan Markle.”
However, Harry’s name is still listed as “The Duke of Sussex, His Royal Highness,” which is a slight differentiation from Archie’s birth certificate where his name was listed as: “His Royal Highness Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex.”
It has been reported that Meghan might not be using her royal titles for any more formal documents as her status was demoted when she stepped away from her duties. On the other hand, Harry can retain his for official purposes which is probably why he uses it on Lilibet’s birth certificate.
Many royal experts predicted that Meghan would be using some sort of Sussex version of her title like she has in other instances…
Such as in her new book, “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex”, and in all Archewell documents, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex”, but this is not the case.
But now, reports claim Meghan and Harry made a careful decision about their son Archie’s name as well…
According to royal biographer and expert Andrew Morton, Harry and Meghan declined the offer of a title for their son.
This was primarily because they thought Archie would be bullied for it.
In addition, reports also suggested that Harry and Meghan decided to raise Archie without a title.
“They didn’t want him to be a prince or a princess, which would be different from protocol,” Meghan said during the Oprah Winfrey interview.
“It was really hard… This went on for the last few months of our pregnancy where I’m going, ‘Hold on a second. How does that work? If he’s not gonna be a prince, he needs to be safe,’” she said.
Morton also confessed during a press con to promote the updated paperback edition of his book Meghan and the Unmasking of the Monarchy: A Hollywood Princess, that the decision was not a general, kids-pick-on-royals fear and a much more specific concern.

“[Archie] could have taken the title ‘the Earl of Dumbarton,’ which is an honorary title, but [Harry and Meghan] decided against that because they felt that the word ‘dumb’ in the word ‘Dumbarton’ would have been used as a mockery when Archie went to school,” Morton told Us Weekly.
